May Member Survey: Have you ever made a Quilt of Valor?

We want to know: Have you ever made a Quilt of Valor?

"We put the fabric together, you guys are the thread. Nobody sees what you do, but you hold us together," says QOVF volunteer, Rebecca Keeble. Join one of the 10,000 volunteers who make up the "QOVF" or Quilts of Valor Foundation, and sew a quilt for combat service members and veterans "touched by war." Whether you have or have not made a Quilt of Valor, there is no mistaking the immense healing power a quilt can have on wounded veterans. Read about it here in this story from NBC News.

Yes,I for Christmas 2013 I made 3 Quilts of Valor for family member who have served.

I would like to get in contact with someone in Northeast Ohio who has made one to have donated. I like to bind quilts and would donate time to binding QOV.

I just started making QOV's!  I have one at the longarmer's, two tops completed, and another top about 60% done.  I plan to present some of the quilts around Memorial Day.

Haven't pieced a top, but have quilted and bound one made by our guild.

Yes, I have had the honor of making 7 Quilts of Valor and every time I work on one, I cry while I am doing it.  Many reasons for that crying, one of which is that the very first quilt I pieced was done when my Daddy was dying. He was a Korean War Vet, and since I had always wanted to join Quilts of Valor, what better time? So five of the first QOV that I presented were to Korean War Vets, in my Dad's honor.  It was so great that in doing the Quilts of Valor, I opted to present them personally to vets in my home state. Personally meeting the Vets and/or their families gave me more than I was giving to them.  One Korean War Vet had written a book about the war and he gave me a copy, complete with a very heart felt note written inside, to me and to my Dad, who had already passed. So, in blessing these many men and women with the warmth of my heart in a quilt, I am given back so much more. If you EVER get the opportunity to be a part of this organization, please do so...you will be so rewarded.

I started a quilt a couple years ago and intend to finish it soon, I have a son who serves our country as a combat medic and I understand the value of quilts.  I have fabrics to make some more hopefully soon, if by body cooperates.

Thanks to everyone who makes the quilts.

I have been making QOV since 2004.  I try to make at least one a month, sometimes more.

I feel it is a worthy cause.  I don't care where they go, I just know they will find the person that needs them.

I have not done yet either, but just reached out to local coordinator and two are on their way to me to longarm.  I am excited to become a part of this effort.  I look forward to it.

I've made 7 Quilts of Valor since 2011.  I also belong to a group of 10 ladies who get together about every 6 weeks to piece a quilt top on a Saturday.  Most of the destinations I've requested  have been  Afghanistan because I like the thought of a wounded service member being wrapped in a quilt & knowing that they're not forgotten so far from home. Hopefully it brings some comfort to them.  My goal is to make 2 QOVs a year, and I think this year I may be able to make 3.

Our quilt guild Northern Lights have made several over the years. I have cut, pieced etc. One year a mother's son was being deported from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She noticed many pregnant women being  left behind. Our group made each one a baby quilt. Our hearts goes out to every soldier who have served their country.

To be completely honest I would love to make quilts of valor for our service men/women but fear and embarrassment are holding me back.  I can piece, but my tops don't always have matching points - no matter how carefully I sew.  Shame on me for letting my pride hold me back....

Each member of my small quilt group committed to creating a quilt to donate to our brave soldiers. They came out FANTASTIC!. I designed my own pattern for my quilt. My design was used by a fellow quilter in my guild to honor two of our brave police officers that lost their lives while on duty. I am working on my  next Quilt of Valor which I am making from repurposed mens red white and blue button up shirts.

Not yet, but I want to.  There is a veterans' hospital a few miles from me and a veterans' shelter even closer.  My church does some work with the shelter.  I think it's time I made a QOV.

I made Anything Goes Mystery Quilt #2 by Debbie Caffery in red/white/blue for my Army Grandson.  I gave it to him when he returned from Afghanistan.  He loves it and uses it all the time.

This is a perfect pattern for a Quilt of Valor.

Yes, I have. I have made one and sent it off, and have another in the planning stage [that is, in my head, but not on paper, yet]. My son and daughter-in-law work for the DOD, and my husband, Dad, paternal grandfather, and all of my uncles served.

I have made numerous blocks which I have passed on to someone to lay out and sew together.  Have one quilt in process that I am doing by myself for a veteran I know.  Have also donated fabric to the group that regularly meets to sew QOV.

I have made several Quilts of Valor. The one dearest to my heart is the one I made for my husband. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran who suffered from the affects of those years. He received 4 Bronze Stars. He has passed away and now I keep his quilt close to me so I can feel his healing presence around me.

I woild love to make one for my uncle(Marine,Vietnam era), my brother (retired Marine, served in both Gulf Wars), and my son(Army) who served a year in Afghanistan.

I have made 4 this year and put out a call to all quilters that I know to do one also.  I'm a disable vet myself so this project is very close to my heart.  The quilt guild that i belong too has made 6 and several more in the works.  I put this out to every quilter...It doesn't have to be a work of art to be QOV just so it comes from the heart its the thought and love that is put into it that counts.  My goal this year is to make at least 6.

Hsjones1945@gmail.com wrote re: May Member Survey: Have you ever made a Quilt of Valor?

Yes, I've made four.  I gave two to the VA hospital near me. I gave another to a friend's husband in another VA hospital, and the last one to a veteran in the VA hospital, where my guild gave 20 quilts to this same VA hospital.  My guild is making quilts still for this VA hospital and will continue giving for some time, I'm sure.
