I have been working for the past three months on five quilt tops that I can take to my mom's in DC.  She has a new long arm and I will definitely be vacationing in DC more.

Favorite place to visit is at our daughter's home in Vermont.   She does not quilt at this time, but when I visit we plan "quilting trips" to anywhere in New England.  We always go to new quilt shops in Vermont and over the last six years we have visited Keepsake in New Hampshire every time I have visited. I love Keepsake even though it is a bit overwhelming but find it is the out of the way, independently owned shops that I love the best. We have visited numerous quilt shops in our last three visits to Portland, Maine (all within a 2 hour drive from Portland).  Anyway, all said and done, we have probably visited 50+ shops in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine...still so many more to go and there is still Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts !  Oh, least I forget, I must add that my daughter and I are knitters, so there are always new shops with new yarns to discover along the way.

No I don't plan vacation around quilting, but I do try to visit a quilt shop and buy a fat quarter or two.

We camp a lot. I have a tip planned to Amish Country here in Ohio. They have beautiful camp areas, and several quilt shops. This will be my chance to visit multiple shops and spend as much time as I want...I'll just take the car and husband and dog can nap!!!Hoping to find different fabrics and ideas

Most every summer we do a "Road Trip" from Arizona to the Midwest to visit family.  Do you know how many quilt shops there are to visit along the way?  Great ones in Farmington,NM, Salina, Lawrence and Concordia, KS,  Ankeny, Pocahonas, Ames, Mallard, Forest City, LeClaire, Muscatine, Amana (EAT while you are there), and there is a realllllllly great little shop in Winterset! And you can also see the Barn Quilts of Iowa.  So many Shops......so little time!

Yes I do.   When we are traveling I look up quilt navigator for quilt shops in the area.  Also plan my vacations around my quilt guild meeting and events.  Don't want to miss anything.

I love to go to Bear Lake, Wind Sun Pines Resort for summer vacation! Thats a wonderful peaceful place, where I finished quite an amount of blankets already, since I there find the peace and quiet time to work on quilts , that are either to big normally for summer to work on them at home. At home you have to get up and around all 5 minutes, because one of the kids needs something every time you just sat down with it. At Bear Lake, I get my coffee and my quilting equipment and move with it in the morning to my favorite spot ot the lake and then, when I had enough from being outside, I move back inside in the cabin and keep worm with the wonderful blanket in work while finishiing up. NOw matter, how bad I feel, at Bear Lake with my quilting I am  a very happy camper.

I would love to plan a summer vacation around quilting for example, visiting all the quilt shops on Route 66 on my way to Shipshewanna and Patucha.  That would be a dream come true!

Yes, my long arm quilter lives where I vacation, so I am usually taking or picking up something. And I just joined the local quilt guild, so I plan my trips around the guild meetings. Last visit I had binding to hand sew, so I completed the binding drinking coffee on the deck by the lake. Wonderful time!

No, but I sometimes take a quilt with me that needs the binding hand-sewn.

No, but I do look to see if there is a quilt shop in the town I am in.  Always have a quilt with me to work on.

Yes, this year especially!  I plan to spend a day at the Sister's Outdoor Quilt Show in Sister's Oregon on our way to outdoor adventures in south central Oregon.  But, DH knows we will be stopping at every quilt store along the way too!

No I don't.  However, we do go to Iowa to visit family and they have wonderful quilt shops there.  I do squeeze in a few shopping sprees.

We live in northern Canada and don't have a lot of scorching hot weather but I find that on the really hot ones I go down to the basement where it is cooler and get at the quilting.  I don't plan a holiday around quilting, but go to any shops I find along the way.

I am afraid the only vacation I will get this year is visiting my daughter only 2 hours from my home.  She does have some great quilt shops nearby so I will probably shop hop thru her town.  The trouble with that is that I am on such a limited budget that I don't always get to spend a lot of money but I do get a lot of inspiration.

We haven't been able to plan a summer vacation the last several years.  We are currently taking care of my father-in-law, who is unable to stay alone at this time.  However, since I have started quilting 7 years ago, vacations have included quilt shops along the way.  I have even traveled with my sewing machine and quilt projects or bought things to quilt along the way.  Some of the most amazing quilt shops have been in the most remote parts of the United States.  :-)

I love to quilt things related to nature and summer is the best time to travel and get inspired.  My family spends a lot of time in the summer at the Shenandoah River in Virginia.  We get to see lots of wildlife and the scenery is amazing.  There are also a lot of antique stores in the area where old quilts can be found and they are always good for inspiration as well.

I take quilt vacations with my two sisters.  We went to Sisters, Oregon one year.  Loved it!!!  Another year we went to shop at Keepsake Quilting in New Hampshire.  Along the way we stopped in Colonial Williamsburg, Lancaster, PA, and on to New Hampshire with a stop over to visit friends in Vermont.  One of my sisters saw an ad in a magazine for a shop in Grey Bull, WY.  A trip to Yellowship worked out for us and would you believe we got to go to Grey Bull (along with a shop in Cody, WY)!  Anywhere we travel I always look for quilt shops.  This past month I visited Savannah, Georgia and found three shops there.  Next trip in a couple weeks is to Canton, Ohio.  I've already got a list of shops together.  I'll get to as many as I can.  One trip I have planned--but haven't made it yet--is to Winterset, Iowa.  Some day.........

You bet I do.  I work in the public schools all year and summer is the only time I really get to do what I want to do when I want to do it.  Besides trying to clean up the house, I sew, sew, and sew some more.  I just returned from my second Smokey Mountain quilting retreat in Tennessee.  What a blast.  We had some new friends join us and caught up on the lives of returning quilters.  I yearly attend Quilt Odyssey in Hershey, PA at the end of July to take classes and admire the wonderful quilts in the show. They give such inspiration!  I know summer is over when I visit my last quilt show in Oaks, PA in mid-September.  So, yes, I do plan my summer around quilting.  Who wouldn't??

Oh yes!  For example, this year we went to the island Hawaii.  We definitely booked some quilt stores into our sight seeing plans.  The past 2 years, our vacation was the S. California Quilt Run....35-40 stores each year.  It takes us 3-4 days to get to them all.

We don't do vacations anymore.. our kids come to see us for their vacation! A few years ago ( maybe 17...) I finished up a cross stitched baby quilt ( Bugs Bunny, mother's favorite cartoon character) for one of our soon to be born grandsons, riding in the car. The 1st and last one I've ever done.. all the rest of our grandchildren's quilts(9) I made or am going to make, will be the convential way.. peicing!!!

Yes and no.  We go (there now) to my friends house in the mountains of NM and I always take my sewing machine and several already cut quilting projects to finish.  There are no distractions so I can sew and sew and read and nap at will.

The International Quilt Festival in Ireland is a dream I'd love to live out in a few years.  Need to save our $$$ for this one!

I always plan my trips around quilting.  We have a family reunion every other year in Lamar, MO.  I live in Wisconsin.  So with my trusty "Quilters Companion" book, I map out our way through all the quilts shops along our route from Sheboygan, WI to Lamar, MO.  I still haven't visited all of them yet, but it makes the trip always more exciting.

Yes!  This June, my quilting friend Sallie and I purposely scheduled our own private week-long quilting retreat:  we rented a  beach house at Surfside Beach, South Carolina, brought along our sewing machines and several UFOs each (we also allowed our husbands to accompany us).  It was a wonderful week!  Sallie made great strides on two complex quilt tops and I finished piecing three simple tops that had been cut out many months ago.  Of course, we also found time to visit all the great quilt shops in the Myrtle Beach area, had plenty of beach time, and ate great seafood at Murrells Inlet.

No, but I use my Quilt Shop Locator app to figure out if I am near any quilt shops while we drive from one destination to another.  I always make sure I visit a shop or two and buy something at each, whether it be a kit, a tool, or some fun fabric!  I support small businesses....and of course get my "fabric fix" too.  :)

No not usually. This summer we traveled to New Zealand, and of course just had to find some fabric to bring home. When I do travel, and if time permits I'll find a local quilt shop and check it out.  I like Rosemary Rivas's  idea of taking a road trip along Route 66 to Paducah. What a great idea.

No but I do incorporate quilting into my vacation. I always take a project with me to work on and I map out quilt stores along the route. Since we vacation by motorcycle, I call the shops to see which ones will mail my purchases home for me. It's like Christmas when we arrive back home. LOL

We haven't been able to afford to take a vacation for several years now.  When we did take vacation trips they were planned around my husband's business.  However we would plan to include general shopping and I would try to find a quilt shop to include.  Now I am living with Cancer and taking vacations is not posible.  My husband has talked about taking day trips but lack of money has made them not posible plus I have not consistantly felt good enough for even that.  I work on completing my mother's unfinished quilts when I am able.

I don't plan my vacation around my quilting but I make sure there is at least 1quilt shop to visit. When in Charleston I found one within walking distance from the motel. When visiting Maggie Valley I lucked up and found three to visit..My husband swears I plan our travel around the quilt stores. He travels with his job and now looks for quilt stores for me. Lol

No, we have 5 children between us and their families so we try to make sure we spend all the time we can with our family when we go. We don't live around an area with many quilt shops so I usually take my baby quilts that I embroidery and work on one of them while we sit around and chat. I'm not good at just sitting and doing nothing and I love to do hand work. This is something easy to carry along since my husband bought me a sewing bag with pockets to carry all my supplies. Our family is very important to us and this is our time to just have fun and enjoy each others company with out all the things of the world getting in the way like phones, computer, tv, etc. God has blessed us with a wonderful family.
