I use alot of charm packs and Layer cakes ,it is so nice to not have to cut my fabirc to those sizes and they work wonderful for applique .  Barbara

No, I don't use pre-cuts but would/need to learn! I think from what I've seen I would probably choose jelly rolls.

I would like to add the "why" I would choose jelly rolls over the others.....I think jelly rolls are more versatile in that they can stay long, can be cut to diff. sizes, can be pieced together then cut in postage stamp size or any other size. The others can too, but I think it would be more involved than the jelly rolls.

No, I have never used pre-cuts due to the fact that I want to make my quilts ALL by myself, including color, cut, sewing, ironing, to hand quilting ALL of my quilts. But, I would use a pre-cut if I were to receive them as a gift!

I've used charm packs and made several quilts using jelly rolls.  The thing I like best is the accuracy of the cut as I am cutting "challenged"!  Always have been - since kindergarten, and probably always will be.

The answer is no, I don't usepre-cuts. I do mostly appliqué and  happen to buy some charm packs once in the blue moon, but I never used them.

No, I prefer not to use pre-cuts as I always wash my yardage as soon as it comes home with me.  It would be too hard to pre-wash pre-cuts.  I know they say you don't need to pre-wash your fabric any more, but I still prefer it.

I don't buy pre-cuts, but I make my own by cutting up my left-overs and scraps into various sized strips and squares.

I sometimes use precuts- it depends on the fabrics whether I buy them in the first place. They really have to catch my eye as a grouping. Then I usually use charm packs or jelly rolls.

The precuts I use most often are the 5" charm squares and the 2 1/2" strips.  I use both these sizes quite often since so many patterns call for those common sizes.  (And both of them can be cut down to a 2 1/2" square very easily!)

I have a few jelly rolls but have not yet used them and only have them because they were on sale. I usually avoid them because of cost-per-yard.

I've used jelly rolls, 5" charms and FQ bundles.  Each offers quick, ready to piece quilt options.  I love the patterns by Quilt In A Day (Tossed 9 patch, Grandmother's Flower Garden, Pinwheels, etc) ) and by Cozy Quilts (any strip tube patterns).  I can sit and sew without too much thought.  I need that some days.  Other days, when I want the challenge, I cut fabrics to make what I choose.  They are also great for beginner projects, where you want to teach accuracy, but the cutting skill isn't as practiced yet.  The beginner can work on piecing skills, knowing their charms or strips were cut well.  You just need to watch for some batik strips, which are sometimes not as accurate.  

Just purchased my first pack of Bali Pops!    Haven't used it yet, but I love the fabrics and know the precuts will save me a lot of time.    I have the pattern planned and can't wait to finish up the Chrismtas quilt I'm making so I can dig in to it!

I haven't used precuts yet, but have recently been thinking about giving them a try.  I am hesitant about mixing the somewhat wilder fabrics and would like to see what the professionals come up with.

I use a lot of the pre cuts all the time I love the 2 1/2 inch strips cham paks I have a lod of  too it makes it much eaiser to use as many of us have arthritis in our hands I find it so very help full , I also use my Acuquilt Go to do a lot of work for me too its a God send in helping us that are lucky enough to have one. I love all the batik fabrics and love getting them in fat quarters and as many different styles of cuts . turn overs i loev too I offten buy the whole set of items to do different things when I can find them on sale so I hunt for the sales , being retired navy wife here I have to look for sales all the time.

Yes, I do use precuts sometimes.  I've used jellyrolls for a "rail fence" quilt for my mom.  I put it on diagonal and did fancy machine quilting in the border triangles.  It turned out spectacular.  I've also used charm packs several times.  Right now I'm making an eight sided Christmas tree skirt with charms.  I think I like charm packs the best, not sure why though.  I love precuts for scrappy looking quilts because I don't have to pick out all the fabrics.  You get a little of a whole line of fabric that goes together.  

I didn't until I purchased a couple of Craftsy workshops that used the precuts.  I really like using them, because cutting out tons of small pieces can get monotonous.  The cost is somewhat prohibitive, though, so I wait for the sales.

Yes, I use precuts on my Accuquilt cutter.  My hands are not very steady and this makes then come out correctly.

I don't use precuts. I find them cost prohibitive. Like Teresa mentioned, I cut my "leftover material" into strips and squares for future use. If I were to use them, I would buy strips because they can be utilized for so many different cuts.

I use fat quarters mostly for table runners . I use jelly rolls for quick quilts and to fill in colors. Don't use layer cakes and /or charm packs yet. On my list of things to try.

What can I say, I have a sweet tooth when it comes to precuts.  LOL! I don't like cutting a buzillion squares and precuts are so easy.  The fabric lines all coordinate together and are just beautiful.  I never prewash or worry about the colors running or coming out wonky.

I have a couple of Layer Cakes waiting in the wings.  So much faster than cutting all those squares and strips and no worries about uniformity.

I don't necessarily buy "Pre-cuts", but make up my scraps into pre-cut sizes so they are all ready for me when I want to tackle a project.  Storing these pre-cut pieces in co-ordinating colors and having them all the same size saves time for me, sice I hate cutting, and haven't a budget that will allow buying precut packages all the time.

No - I have never used them but recently came upon a purse I wanted to make and pre-cuts would have been perfect I spent a couple hours cutting out the 2 1/2" strips from my stack of fabric - pre-cuts certainly would have helped.

I'm not very fond of the pinked edges on precuts.  I don't feel like I get the accuracy that I do with a straight edge.

Sometimes.  I use Charm Squres and Fat Quarters mostly but I do like to do the large stars with pre cut triangles. It takes so many to do them that it is easier to buy the triangles than to cut them.

I occasionally use charm packs.  However, I find that most are not accurately cut.  Takes a lot of time to recut and end up going from 5 inch to 4 1/2 inch squares.  What I do like is adding the variety of different fabrics to use with scraps I already have.

I have used jelly rolls---found them particulary good when teaching my granddaughters to quilt.  With an ever growing stash, I cut my leftovers to use instead of buying precuts.  I think the pre-cuts, charms, jelly roll etc. make a lot of sense if you are teaching beginners.

Yes, being a new quilter, I enjoy the shortcuts available with the jelly rolls, charm packs, etc.  Love how all the pieces coordinate.  It isn't as frustrating to learn with most of the cutting already done!  :-)

I like using charm packs for two reasons...I am a scrappy quilt lover and I like wall hangings , runners , and other smaller projects.  The assortment of fabrics allows for lots of design opportunities  and there is usually a color way for seasonal projects as well.

I haven't yet, but I look at them every time I go to a fabric store.  I make a lot of children's quilts and think they would be wonderful to get me a headstart.  Definitely jellyrolls and squares of all sizes would save lots of time.

I usually use the 5 inch pre-cuts and have never used anything else.  Recently though I bought a layer cake and I think I died and went to Heaven.  Wow, not only did the quilt turn out amazing, but it was ever so fast!  I think I've found my new favorite pre-cuts!

The only time I use pre-cuts is if I'm taking a class that calls for them.  I still pre-wash all my fabric even though I know it isn't really necessary any more, but I just want to do it.   I do use fat quarters once in a while.  Sometimes I wash them by hand, but have used them without washing especially if it is for a wall hanging.

I prefer to make my own pre-cuts, but do like the jelly-roll and the layer cake as they are easy sizes to fit most patterns.   If I am using either of the two, I will add cuts of my own stash of those sizes to fill  in the blanks in my design.

I love precuts, I haven't seen many charm packs I don't like. I made a Christmas quilt using turnovers so easy and came out very pretty If I do say so myself.

My scraps end up in different drawers of these sizes plus any other size square that will use every bit of scrap fabric...they all get used and are so much faster to use up if the cutting has already been done.

Yes, I use pre-cuts most of the time.  I have arthritic fingers & sometimes my cutting is not as accurate as it should be with the yardage cuts. I also have limited room, so I work on my kitchen table.  I buy fat-quarters, 10" squares & charm squares. I haven't tried the jelly-rolls yet.  I prefer the 10" squares. I can cut them in a variety of shapes & sizes or leave them whole. After I decide on a pattern, I buy the pre-cuts for the central design & buy a few yards of coordinating material for the borders.  This system works very well for me & cuts down on the amount of large pieces I have to deal with.

Oh yes, I found jelly rolls and have totally fallen in love with them. What a time saver! I've use charm packs and also made a quilt using several layer cakes. It is amazing how fast a quilt can come together when the cutting is all done for you!

I like the jelly rolls, since they are a size that you can do a lot with.  I have used some of the 5 inch squares also.  I like the cutting done for me if I can get it.  That is why I like the Go Machine, it makes rag quilts go so much faster.

No, I really don't like them.  I have used one jelly roll, and have enough coordinating fabrics to make my own.  Also, I like to keep costs down, and am trying not to buy any more fabric (Ha ha) and precut would just become unpackaged and added to the mess, never to be found again.

Yes, I have used precuts; primarily the 2.5 inch strips.  I did have a bad experience with the last strips which were included in a kit but cut by the manufacturer.  Apparently, the cutting machine was having a very bad day, and many were less than 2.5 inches--not good especially when using them to make trianagles.  I will be leery of the precuts in the future.

Oh yes! They're my new "go-to" when I just want to see without picking out all the coordinating fabrics! And the new patterns make them go together so easy with wonderful results.

I haven't used pre-cuts because I am an appliquer but I have purchased some and, Shazam!, I find them useful in applique because I can see the colors at a glance and they are the right size for flowers, etc.  How do you like that for a run on sentence??

I haven't use precuts (unless you count fat quarters); I like to make my own assortments of fabric.  Most of the jellyrolls etc that I've seen include at least two or three prints I wouldn't want, which makes a pricey item even more expensive.

No, but I'm seriously considering it, mainly because it seems like such a time saving way to get your project done. Also, I have severe RA (arthritis) and using shears for more than a short time is an impossible task. So, I might start cutting shapes in January and not finish until the following December! No worry, mostly, I do other things! But, back to your question - I would use precuts, even just strips and squares!

I love fat quarters!!!! I've used charms and a jelly roll once. I think I'd use jelly rolls more if they were within my budget. I've used 10" square stacks and liked them, but again they are out of my budget. So most of the time I use fat quarters or yardage and cut my own.

I've been using a lot of jelly roll-type precuts recently.  I had seen a pattern on the Hoffman website that I liked and made several different color versions of it.  And I purchased a couple of charm packs with a plan in mind to use them in some sort of Irish chain pattern but now realize I should've stuck with jelly rolls instead--lol.  I love precuts!

I have been quilting for a number of year's, and have yet to buy any pre-cuts,  I've been drawn to them, buy always pass them by, simply because they are so expensive.  However, I often cut strips and charm blocks from my stash.  Would I like to receive a pack?  Oh, yes!  Then I could try what has always intrigued me!

I use charm packs and fat quarters.  It is easy to create projects using so many different coordinated colors of designs from charm packs.  The fat quarters also are easy to put together for certain projects.  But those are the only 2 pre-cuts that I use.

Except for fat quarters to obtain a few missing colors, no I do not use pre-cuts.  I do cut my own shapes when quilting as necessary.

I use charm packs, jelly rolls, and some pre-cut shapes when quilting, but have cut most of my own pieces during my quilting days.  There are some really cute cutouts with Sunbonnet Sue and Sam and others whimiscal shapes that would be so cute to use.

I do sometimes use them. They certainly are a time saver and are a big help for a special gift to someone. I like them all but I really like the 10 inch squares which can be sub cut into such quick unique design squares.

Yes I was always interested in quilting, but I thought it was to difficult, but thanks to Craftsy.com I took the course of "quilting quickly" with Jenny from the Missouri Star Quilt Comp. and she explained how easy it was with precuts that I got hooked then little by little I have been experimenting on my own and I can cut and combine fabrics on my own. But I don't think this will be possible if I haven't started with precuts.

I use precuts because I can get right down to sewing.  I use layer cakes, charms, and jelly rolls in addition to cutting some fabric on my own.  I'd like to learn to use the turnover sizes, but can't find a pattern to start with.

I use pre-cuts about half the time especially the quick projects.  Layer cakes are my favorite because you just have more to work with.

Yes i did an online mystery quilt that used a jelly roll. I liked the speed of getting everything cut out. I have used a charm pack for some applique. I have started buying more precuts to use when i need a quick qift.

The first time I used pre-cuts, it was jelly rolls, and I used them to make a lap sized quilt top.  I finished and quilted the top, and then washed it in cold water, gentle cycle, top loader, small amount of orvus soap, 3 color catchers, and half a cup of white vinegar in the cold water rinse just to get the soap out (I know vinegar doesn't "set" colors).  It was a disaster.  The dark colors ran onto into the light colors, and the entire quilt was ruined.  This was the first time I'd never pre-washed, because I'd always bought fabric before.  What a waste of money, time and effort.  I have since bought a couple of jelly rolls, but the time I spent washing (actually soaking them), hand agitating, rinsing, spinning them out in my salad spinner, and lying them flat to dry and then press -- well, to be honest, it takes me less time to cut the strips from pre-washed fabric.  And I was NEVER use anything but pre-washed fabric in anything I quilt again!

I've never use pre-cuts.  If I use a pattern, I usually change size, shape or color of it.  I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy sticking to something I hadn't used my creativity on.  My granddaughter used pre-cut strips for her first quilt when she was 15 but she didn't stop there.  She's making up her own designs now.

I have used charm packs and jelly rolls in my quilts. It depends on the pattern and the quilt I want to make. I really like the jelly roll strips because I know they are cut straight and true, and there are so many great designs that can be made from them! However, I like to use yardage just as much, so it all depends on the project I'm working on.

I have used only a few fat quarters, but found them to be very flimsy material.  I would have been better off to buy 1/8th of a yard instead.  I only bought them because I was in a hurry and the colors I wanted were available in the fat quarters.  I tried the Accuquilt but decided that I could get twice the number of squares when I rotary cut them, and didn't waste so much fabric.

I like all pre-cuts. Charm packs are a great way to get a taste of a whole collection. I've used them as they are for table toppers, and combined them with solids for some great hst projects.  I keep fat quarters around to add variety to my quilts. When a pattern calls for, let's say, red fabric, I can pull out lots of different reds to add some pizzazz!

Half of the fun of quilting is in the cutting out the pieces.  However whenever I make a quilt and have

No, I do not use pre-cuts because I treat my fabrics with the product Retayne which uses very hot water so my fabrics are also pre-shrunk. I want chemicals removed and fabrics starched before using so  anything smaller than a Fat Quarter is simply too much hassle.

Often my friends and family knowing my love for fabrics will bring me boxes of scraps that they have found in various places (ie auctions, garage sales etc) In order to organize all my scraps I make them into precuts like charm packs (5 or 6 inch), Jelly rolls, or fat quarters. I Love to make scrap quilts and have many different patterns that I use, and always searching for new patterns. My husband laughs at me when I get new boxes of scraps he says "Don't you have enough?". I just tell him "It is a disease, I never have enough."

I use Fat Quarters a lot.  They are just the right size to make a blocks, purses and I pad covers.  I also use them to make place mats and table runners.

I bought a kit with precut appliques in it. The only thing I didn't like about them was having to trim them out again after attaching to fusible. I'd rather draw my shapes on fusible and cut them out after attaching to fabric.

I am a relatively new quilter and I haven't had much success with precuts.  I find they aren't exact and on grain and therefore I became very frustrated.  I know it takes longer, but I do prefer to cut the fabric myself and then I know it is on grain and exactly the size I require.

I have used jelly rolls for my french braid projects and would use them in more projects if I could find them in just the right fabrics.  Charm packs, layer cakes and fat quarters are great for making my own precuts and applique items.

No, I want my work to be mine and if I make a mistake it is mine and not using someone else to do my work to be better.  What is the fun of creating if you have someone else do it.  I look at all the precuts and the colors and designs are not me and don't look worth the cost, but I did buy one as I thought the color combination was great until they arrived and I was so disappointed.   So as a creative nut, I will do my own even if I buy more fabric then I need.  Self Creation is the word for a self created project.  Love that quilt.

I have used jelly rolls before in my quilts, which made the color selection and cutting part more easier.  I have ordered for the first time precut appliques.  I have a quilt that is already finished and when I looked at it, it needed something more in some of the fill in squares.  I was going to either embroider something in them or use appliques.  I chose to do appliques and found some real cute ones online.

No I don't use pre cuts, I guess I'm an old fashioned, I like to wash and iron all fabric, and I like the leftovers for my stash?  I don't imagine there would be much left over from a jelly roll, plus they are more expensive, I find, then buying yardage

I have used jelly rolls that is all. I have a pre-cut quilt but haven't tryed to put it together yet. I got it out and looked at all the pieces and that is a lot of pieces. Thought I don't know if I can do this or not. Someday I will try.

I do not use pre-cuts because I want my quilts to be my design and total built by my loving hands. I might use some when I start doing charity quilts, though, because there is such a call from charitable groups for quilts for special needs. I would definitely cut down on preparation and design times.

I do not, because I pre-wash everything. My scraps get cut in strips and squares, so I sort of make my own!

I have made a quilt using a jelly roll, but I haven't used my charms yet. I hope to do that one day, and  using the  5" charms with my fabric collection or fat quarters (I make my own fq's with every yardage that I buy.) I do like all the different colors and variety that's in the pre cuts, though.

Have used Fat Quarters, and recently made a Tumbler quilt with Charm Squares.....would love to try Jelly Rolls!  I do cut up my scraps into strips, squares & rectangles tho too.

I've used them and then again, I've cut my own.  It all depends on the fabric selection - if I need a lot of different fabrics in a quilt it is usually more cost effective to purchase charm packs, jelly rolls, or layer cakes, etc.  Quilting is soooo much fun because there are really no rules - well except for that little quarter inch thing!!! :)

I have bought some jelly rolls and charm packs, but the only thing I've really done with them so far is the "jelly roll race quilt"- I'm still looking for just the perfect project for the others!

I have used jelly rolls, charm packs,and fat quarters.  I do prefer to choose and cut my own fabrics for a project, but pre-cuts are great to use when i just want to make a quick quilt, the only choice I have to make is which pattern I will use.

Yes I use pre-cuts.  I've used Charm Packs and Jelly Rolls from a "collection" of purchases made online.

I have a small tote of jelly rolls and charm pack sets I've collected. I wasn't sure just what to do with them until I got a great tip from Fons & Porter's Easy Quilts Fall 2012 magazine to, "use a coordinating solid fabric for the background color" (as in the "Hello Garden" quilt from the issue).  

Yes, I do.  I love the charm packs and jelly rolls.  I use the charm packs more often, they're the perfect size and I don't have to spend hours cutting.  The whole fabric line is included, so I know all the fabrics will coordinate together.  Sometimes I mix in my own cut scraps to add to the scrappy look of my charm quilts.  

Jelly rolls are my favorite. I've also used charm packs and turnovers.

I like the idea behind pre-cuts. Saves time, and the bundles are already pre-coordinated. I am a beginning quilter and find that they are very expensive and it takes something out of the learning process of making a quilt. There is an important creative expression that comes from coordinating your fabrics and planning a design. There is also that ...meditative-ness that comes from just cutting the fabric into the size and shape your need. But pre-cuts have thier place like if you are in need of putting a quilt together quickly, or if your teaching a group, or if you developing arthritis and cutting is a painful part of quilting (my grandmother had this problem in her later years).

I have purchased precuts, but never just taken them alone and made a quilt. I have pulled pieces from them to accent other pieces, and some - like the jelly rolls - are too cute to unwrap!

I like to use pre-cut fat quarters from a collection for making quilts. I'm not that great at selecting fabrics from a variety of collections that work together yet like the look of quilts made with lots of prints.

I have never used precuts, except for fat quarters.  I guess the cost of the jelly rolls, etc. has kept me from buying them as, when I figure the cost per yard, it is higher.  And these packs may come with a variety of fabrics, not all of which appeal to me.

I've used charm squares for baby quilts and bags, but I have other pre-cuts (jelly rolls and dye-cut shapes)I haven't used yet. Don't know why....same reason I buy more fabric when I have plenty to choose from....I just hate to use it because then I won't have it anymore!

I like Jelly Rolls, Charm packs 'cause you have a little beat of the whole fabric collection, but I think is more expensive and at least in my case I need to take care of money; be sides you skip the fun of cutting fabric wich I injoy a lot. I think how grand grand mothers way back struggle with all kind of things and for us now everythings is sooooo easy, I love quilting and like to do it and I don't have to "save time" or steps in the proces... Yes.  They can give you variety of colors that work together and save time.  Something we all need more of.

I've used jelly rolls, charm squares & layer cakes. They are fun to work with because the cutting is done and they include fabrics from the full line. I like the layer cakes best so far because I can cut them into charms or keep them full size. Some jelly roll patterns would work with layer cakes as well.

I have used these for special projects.  I used the jelly rolls, charm packs, and layer cakes.  I have the triangles and honey buns yet to use.  I like the pre-cut  as it eliminates a lot of time and effort in preparation.  However, I do like to use up left overs by cutting into small sizes like a lot of the pre- cuts.

I have used the 2 1/2" strips and the charm packs 5" squares. For the most part I have used the 5" squares to make blocks that go along with the nickel quilt patterns.

Yes, I like precuts.  I like jellyrolls of 2 1/2" strips.  I can do all sorts of different shapes and styles on blocks with those strips.  :)

I use charm packs for quilts I make for a local NICU.  They work very well for this...I use a 5 x 6 square layout, then add a border of about 3" all around, quilt diagonal cross-hatch, and it's done! I also end up with some extra squares for myself since I have 10 left over from each pack.   Another precut that I use is the jelly roll.  I use them as binding, so I don't have to cut a lot of strips.  I purchased one pastel jelly roll which I use for binding for the baby quilts, and one jelly roll will bind a number of those little quilts.  For those who aren't sure what to do with a layer cake, don't forget that one layer cake = four charm packs - just cut it in half in both directions.

I have not yet tried pre-cuts I have a couple of jelly rolls that I keep looking at thinking about what possible quilt I could put together. They are ones that I won in a local shop hop that I did. I'm almost afraid to try them for fear that I won't like what I make. Maybe some day?

No - I have never used pre-cut fabrics but would love to learn how.  I, too, am cutting challenged and growing very frustrated with my attempts at log cabin blocks.  If pre-cut fabrics would make my life easier and happier, then I'm all for it.

I'm a newish quilter, and the price of the precuts makes me gulp.  I'm also afraid I'll end up with piles of fabric that I don't like/appreciate.  Perhaps when I have a bit more experience I'll experiment with them.

I just love fat quarters and jelly rolls. I have several books in my personal library dedicated to the use of one or the other. Being disabled, I find it is a lot easier to work with pre-cuts. And of course, fat quarters fit into an envelope sooo easily, and makes a nice, quick gift to my quilting buddies!

I do use precuts sometimes. I like the layer cakes, because I can cut them into 5" or 2.5". I like 5" charms, too. But my favorites are fat quarters, I have lots of those! They are so versatile and allow me to have alot of selection. If I visit a shop somewhere, I can always rationalize a fat quarter, just to get SOMEthing!

If you call fat quarters 'precut', then, yes, I do.  But I have tried a couple of kits with precuts and they were a disaster.  Mainly, I guess, because I WILL prewash everything.  When I finished, some of the charms were down to 4 1/2.  So I had to rethink the pattern and buy more fabric (it DID come out pretty good, even if I do say so myself!).  I HAVE used strips with a bit more success.  I was told to piece and then wash, but I fear running and ruining my quilt.  Though it is nice to know that others have used them with no problems.

Not me, I am still using my rotary cutter, although I would love the Accquilt system, just too high for my blood right now.  It takes time, but for me that is the purpose to slow down and smell the coffee, tea, flowers so to speak. Blessings to all:)

the first precut I used was a jelly roll that I won. I made a dress for my granddaughter. I was hooked :)  I use jelly rolls, charm squares, and layer cakes.  they help to make many projects go faster, I love when I can find them on sale. I have used a few fat 1/4 bundles too, when I wanted a specific grouping of fabrics.  I do quite a few swaps, and fat 1/4's are great for them.

my favorite cut is 4-6 yards, depending on how much I like the fabric. :)

I've used some charm packs, but sometimes they have more of what I don' like than what I do. I just as well buy a half yard of each of the collection fabrics that I do like. I do use jelly rolls a good bit. I find they have a little more variety. I prefer though to just buy a yard of each piece of fabric that appeals me.

I use layer cakes and jellyrolls. Have done several "strip club" quilts and many Twister (using layercakes). Great to relax and let the color selection be done for me sometimes!

My quilt group and I do lots of charity quilts, so we defiantly use lots of precuts because the quilts go together so quickly. We use lots of jelly rolls. I myself love to use layer cakes and charm packs.

They are useful sometimes but they are very expensive given that not all the fabric in any given collection will appeal. Also the grain is not always straight which can present problems.

You could say I use precuts sometimes, but not ones bought at the shop.  When I do a quilt, the left over fabric is cut into 3 inch strips and different size squares.

i use precuts in many ways:   fat quarters, jelly rolls and layer cakes can make a quilt top and charms are mostly used for applique, as are all the leftovers.   jelly rolls strips can make binding.  precuts can be expensive, but there are some really good sales out there to take advantage of.

Don't use precuts partly because I have tons and tons of scraps and partly because when using fat quarters I have found that they need squared off simply because of not being cut straight to start with. If that squaring problem happens with fat quarters, I would be afraid to start out with something smaller!

I have bought 5" charms but haven't had time to use them yet. Strips would be my favorite of any pre-cut. I like the patterns that use strips.

No, I don't use them, for several reasons: they are an expensive way to buy fabric, I prefer pre-washing, I have an extensive stash from which to make my own fabric combinations, and I like the resulting quilt that is uniquely mine. I really enjoy washing, ironing and cutting my fabric. I feel that I get to know the fabric intimately this way, and just handling the fabric is its own special pleasure! Studying the fabric and choosing others to go with it -- it's all part of the creative process. In addition, it's getting to the point where I can recognize a quilt that is made from jelly rolls and they are starting to look "canned" to me. I don't want to make quilts that anyone else could make!

I love the concept of pre-cut fabric, and I have made one lap quilt with a Jelly roll. But thought it was a little misleading to say you could make two quilts out of one Jelly Roll, when you really had to add a lot of fabric with the strips. They just are too expsensive I feel a little cheated that I didn't do it all from beginning to end.

Yes I use precuts. I find that they make it both faster and easier to get that part of the process done.

I use the precut floral, animal & other shapes.  I can make a very simple background & add these shapes to make it look oh so much more difficult to our non-quilting friends.  This helps me get so much more done for charity.  I have given 45 quilts to charity this year - all made & quilted myself.

I use pre-cuts all the time. When my husband and I went on an anniversary trip last year, I scouted out a quilt shop to browse while there. I looked around and didn't see anything but bolts of fabric. When I asked the lady behind the counter if they sold pre-cuts, she looked at me as if I weren't a real quilter. NO, they didn't carry pre-cuts!  But I love them...especially jelly rolls and layer cakes. Makes life much easier!

I havent used precuts, but with working full time, imiting my quilting time. I think I can see where this would be a time saver. I may need to look into this more.

Yes, when traveling in our Motor Home using pre cut charm packs, jelly rolls, and layer cakes makes it possible for me to make quilts and project as we travel.

I use charms the most but have used jelly rolls and layer cakes. Charm packs are the cheapest way of making scrap quilts with the colors coordinating.  I make my own pre-cuts also from my leftover scraps.  They are awesome.  My own pre-cuts are a free quilt top.

I have used a couple of pre-cut strips.  One particular pre-cut set.  I love the idea of all of the line together, but often find a number of them I do not like.  And they are a bit costly not to like.  I have used a couple of "fat eighth" bundles of the same color in different hues for applique and they work nicely.

I like using charm packs and layer cakes, very versatile, I do like jelly rolls as well, mostly it depends on which project I am using.  Its nice to be able to get a bit of everything and you dont have to worry it if matches as that work is already done for you!

Usually I don't use the pre-cuts as I enjoy the entire piecing process, cut, fiddle, sew, press and so forth. But there is always the exception and my husband loves to buy them for me when they catch his eye, so yes, I use them.

Sometimes.  I have used charm packs, fat quarter bundles and I recently purchased a Bali pack for a class I will be taking in November.  I have also used several "pre-cut" kits.  I admit they are accurate and save a lot of time but I really enjoy picking out fabric for my projects.

I do not use pre-cuts.  Can visualize a purpose for them for someone who is either cutting space challenged or who may have physical challenges.  Space challenge would be akin to our snow birds that come to Arizona in the winter in their 5th-wheels, or someone in a small apt, etc.  Jelly rolls are very logical to me and I would likely use them for their convenience.  The backed applique is also logical for use convenience, but rather expensive in comparison to doing it yourself.

I'm fairly new to quilting (about a year) and I only recently used my first pre-cut set: 5" charm squares. I would definitely use them again and I expect to try out a jelly roll, too. The pros: all squares were perfectly and precisely cut to be the exact same size; the starch helped them stick together and prevented inadvertent stretching of the fabric; and the pre-cut saved a lot of time for a project that I needed to complete within a short timeframe. Yay! The cons: I don't always like ALL the fabrics in the pre-cut set and I felt they somewhat stifled my creativity. Next time I use a pre-cut set I will likely be mixing them with pieces I cut myself and /or I may be re-cutting some of them into triangles or hexagons or applique pieces, or...? Quilting is an art and the sky's the limit!

No I dont like precuts, I prefer to cut myself. I like the tutorials of the artist using them, like a one yard wonder or a fat qtr purse, but I always buy yardage because I change my technique alot.

I have not yet tried pre cuts.  I like to choose fabric and mix and match.  Also, I like to have "excess" fabric in case I make an error or become inspired to create another project!

I love charms and jelly rolls the best. Fat Quarters are a close second.  As a beginning quilter, I found that my cutting skill leaves a lot to be desired and I waste more fabric than I accumulate for my stash.

I have fq's. charms and layer cakes because I only make small quilts and the many patterns in each help me make my wall quilts easier and my doll quilts more varied. I feel I get more variety for the price and they take up far less space.

I love fat quarter's. They are the best, they are versatile enough and large enough to use on quilts, yet small enough to work easily with. They are wonderful for scrappy quilts, and cheap enough to be able to pick up several at one time.

Yes, I made a king sized quilt top out of layer cakes.  I have a jelly roll to match, and I am going to frame the backing with it.  I have also used fat quarters.  They made excellent Sunbonnet Sues.

I purchased a set of fat quarters once to make flowers for an applique quilt. They were very pretty vibrant colors that I don't usually use. Usually I purchase 1/2-4 yd. pieces if I don't have a quilt planned for that particular fabric. I like to pick my colors and that is a lot of the fun of making the quilt!

I like to use precuts but I especially like the layer cakes to make "crazy quilts". If you want a 6 patch crazy quilt block use 6 layer cakes (all different) and just cut into 6 different shapes. Use one  piece of each to make your block. Can cut the stack into any size or shape and can do as few as three and I have gone up to 9 pieces. Makes a neat easy crazy quilt.

I have so much fabric that I don't buy the pre-cuts.

I have participated in a lot of pre-cut swaps, but more for the exposure to fellow quilters.  When it comes down to starting a quilt, I would prefer to buy the yardage to ensure I don't run short.  It also depends on the type of quilt.  Precut come in handy for a scrappy look.

When I quilt, it's to continue the craft of my Grandmothers.  I make my quilts to be functional.  I have participated in swaps for the fun of it.  But, when  I make a quilt I want to say I made it from scratch and know that there were no pre-cut, sewn, or quilted done by anyone else.

Excluding fat quarters from this category I have not used precuts.  Like a large number of quilters I'm still trying to use up my stash, however we all know that you cannot complete a quilt without purchasing additional fabric.  The one exception for me was a wool xmas quilt for my daughter, she picked out all the fabric from my stash.  I love looking at the charms and jelly rolls but feel they are cost prohibitive.

I like them because you a variety of fabrics that were designed to be used together.  Just add accent and border fabrics to personalize the quilt.  Best of all, the cuts are precise and uniform-- something that I don't always get if I cut them myself.  And they are great when you need a quick gift quilt.  There are so many patterns designed for 2 1/2" strips. I keep a few jelly rolls on hand so I am always ready to go when I see something new that I want to try.

I use precuts all the time. I never thought I would until I received some in a gift bag and it was great! Now, I always keep several around just for those days when I just want to sew something...no cutting, no measuring, just sit down and sew. I make my own charm packs, jelly rolls and layer cakes, etc, whenever I'm cutting yardage for a project...whatever I have leftover gets cut at the same time and stored for later use! But I really like buying a precut pack. You get such a variety for a great price. I could never afford to buy all the yardage that you get in a precut pack. I also think it allows me to be more creative because I get to focus on what I love to do!

Yep...I think they're great.  I work 12 hours/7 days a week most of the time, so pre-cuts is often the only way I will get any quilts finished in my lifetime.  Fantastic idea.  I can't afford to be a "quilt snob"; I'm not going to live that long.  I think pre-cuts is like having a granddaughter or someone helping me finish my quilt a little faster.

I love FAT QUARTERS especially in collection bundles when they are already matched with other fabrics!

I like fat quarters - I do lots of small quilts like wall hangings, table mats, etc.  The fat quarters give me lots of different fabrics to choose from.

Yes, I do use pre-cuts.  My favorite is jellyrolls.  You get the whole line of fabric in 2.5 inch strips and there are so many neat patterns using jellyrolls.  I also belong to what we call the "strip club" and we meet every 2 months for a get-together of sewing, eating, and fellowship.  We pick a pattern and start sewing with our strips (jellyrolls).  Great fun!

I am only starting to use precut fabrics. I temd to work with traditional fabrics and patterns so I can see where the precuts would cut down the amount of time cutting the projects fabrics. I recenly received 2 jelly rolls and 3 charm packages that I definitely will use in one of my quilts.

It was the pre cuts that started my stash & my addiction to quilting. All are a great way to buy all the pieces of a collection without having to order yardage from each individual collection.  Fabric colors, patterns & designs over the years were mostly for clothing ... now - wow! Fabric is ART!  Fabric is FUN!

Yes.  Since I have not been quilting long, I do not have a large stash.  It is wonderful to buy a packet of precut-fabrics that are all color coordinated and ready to go.

I haven't used precuts in a quilt yet, but I own quite a few. I have 4", 5" and 6" squares. I am thinking of making half square triangles form the larger squares and somehow intigrating them all together.

I recently attended the Pacific International Quilt show for the first time in many years and I have to admit, I was "charmed" by all of the  charm packs they had there so I bought my first few. I can't wait to start using them! Jelly rolls do seem like a great idea, but I'm almost afraid to commit, since most likely I'm not going to like all of the strips. If I'm going to spend that much, I think I'd rather pick out all the fabric choices. But, who knows, I do love the idea of them!

No not yet.  There will be a time when I can afford the price of pre-cuts or a Go or Baby Go. The cost per yard of pre-cuts sort of "goes against my grain".  I imagine that once I start using pre-cuts, my rotary cutter will be left on the side and the sounds of my sewing machine will fill my project room.  Thanks for the opportunity to express my views.

I LOVE making quilts from 5" charms.  I love that the fabric is already selected for me, saving me a lot of time.  I also love making up my own patterns for my quilts. It is like putting a puzzle together! Many variations are possible.  It's fun to see what will come up next.  :)  I have also purchased some Jelly Rolls and look forward to making them into an interesting quilt pattern.  Again, I love the fact that the fabric has been preselected for me, saving me hours browsing in a store.  I live in the country and do not get to the city very often.  Shopping over the internet is a ton of fun!

I do not use precuts very often. I would like to at some point experiment with jelly rolls. They are quick and easy to use but sometimes too expensive for a large project.

I have used a few precuts.  Mostly Jelly Rolls.  They sure do speed up the quiltmaking process.  Other than cutting backgrounds and borders, you can just sit down and start sewing.

I use some precuts for specific classes or block of the month kits. Jelly Rolls make 2 1/2' sqares so much easier to cut when you need a lot!

I.use anything I can get my hands on. Precut allows me access for several types of quilts. And gives me a matching collection. But I have to admit there is nothing like the smell and feel of yardage on the bolt. You can feel the different designers and companies from the touch. And the sm. ell is just plain wonderful. I'm just like anyother true quilter. Touch, sight, and smell of fabric is half the fun of quilting
