I am an updated traditional quilter.  Love highlighting great fabric patterns sparked against solids.  Sometimes I use traditional quilting stitching, sometimes a combination of traditional and modern stitching patterns, and sometimes as little as possible.  I let the fabric speak and love creating with needle and thread!

I am a more traditional quilter except when I am paper piecing - then I like to experiment with colors but I must say that my 12 year old granddaughter and beginning quilter has opened my eyes to lots of exciting color combinations.

One word? Evolving. As a new quilter, I change as I find new techniques. But the traditional quilts tie me back to the women who went before me. What a charge to work on an old pattern and know that hundreds, thousands of women whose names or stories we could never know made the same stitches the same way I am. They held their needles like I do, took that odd stitch at the corner. It makes me part of a long, very strong and proud history. As I sit and stitch, I can feel their hands working over the same pattern and we are linked. I wonder if one of them thought of those who would come after and work the pattern too?

I am a stitch in the ditch girl because I use vibrant fabrics and patterns.  I don't want the quilting to take away from the design of the quilt.

I prefer traditional quilting but do like learning new ways to put things together. Also enjoy designing my own ideas using those traditional blocks, especially with using colors I like best. And someday I plan to finally use free-motion quilting to finish my quilts!

I'm a beginner, rejoicing in all the creative opportunities opening up to me at 72!  While I'm a beginner at quilting, I'm not new to the needle; I've been doing embroidery, knitting, and some crochet all my life, as well as making clothing (especially when my daughter, now 46, was a toddler :)

I enjoy using traditional as well as modern fabrics in my quilts.  I machine quilt most of the time because I can finish more quilts and fabric creations.  I have many quilt ideas in my head and so little time to create all of them.  Isn't that a problem with a lot of quilters?

i am still a beginner, but the direction I lean towards is easy traditional styles but I would really like to get into the artistic, design my own and make hand painted material to go with it ie: Cindy Walter style.

I love the traditional quilt patterns.  I think the only thing that has really changed about my use of color is the combination itself.  Now, I think I experiment more with blending colors that I might not have used years ago.  Also, I used to use a lot of muslin, and I stay totally away from that now.

I am still experiencing all kinds of different techniques with the guild.  It is great!  We have a lady who is a designer and giving classes at a quilting shop and then she comes once to twice a month to give us a class for a special quilt that we will be making this fall.  This lady is an artist.  She has won many awards for making of her quilts and wallhangings.  I look forward going back to the guild this fall.

I was a "traditional" quilter...loved the sampler type quilts & old fashioned patterns...until my dear stepson asked me "Do you think you'll ever make me a quilt?"  That question melted my heart, and made a panic set in. He is young with a very modern decor....what to do? I had always loved those "Grandma type" quilts. One of my quilting PIC's (Partner in Crime) spent hours with me, sorting through pattern books, and finally we came up the perfect quilt for a modern look. Success! he loved it, and was thrilled! So I guess I have broadened my quilting ideas a bit...thanks to David, I tried something totally new and so not me...but I loved it too!

I still consider myself a  newbie  when it comes to quilting.  I've only got 1 finished project, and 3 others started, but I would probably consider myself a mix between modern, contemporary, and traditional.  I tend to take traditional patterns and use modern and contemporary fabric choices.

I am a very eclectic quilter - I love all styles.  However, I am trying to narrow my choices (too many UFOs accumulating).   I love the traditional quilts and the variations of them - when they are completed, they are always beautiful.  But I also love landscape quilts - they really challenge me.   If I had to make a choice it would be applique - all kinds - I love to do any kind of handwork.

I am trying to learn new things, like hand quiltling.    I was just ludkey enough to be able to go to Marion, In. To the Quilters Hall of Fame, where they inducted Elanor Burns this past month.  I was able to take a couple of classes on Hand Quilting from the very nice ladies at the Hall of Fame Guild, and one on quilting on your home machine.  Both very interesting, so now I am trying my hand at both of these new things.  So as to my style, I am just trying to learn more things rather that just a certain style.  I have really enjoyed my time Quitling!

Do I have to pick one style?  I like traditional when I am needing a safe mode, too much happening in life and I need some basic structure.  Most of the time, I find myself happier with newer designs that have a little bit of everything in the quilt, some applique, some embroidery, different block styles and it all goes together for a unique look.  These are the ones that keep me going.  Gotta love a good challenge now and then.  Plus, it keeps you up on new designs and you can decide if you really like a new twist in your quilts or not.  Quilting is fun.

I enjoy both the traditional quilt patterns as well as exploring interpretations of background styles as well as creating new quilt blocks to add as an accent to a very personal quilt such as I am currently making for my oldest grandson.  The three personal blocks I have created for this quilt are, the crescent moon the night he was born, a sunrise to reflect the light he has brought to my life, a baby bear....the name his Mother has affectionally called him, and a stylized interpretation of a Native American Basket to  reflect his heritage.

I have a kinda of strange style because I incorporate my digitized images, embroidered images, into a quilt with free-motion quilting and fancy sewing-machine stitches. There is nothing out of bounds in my quilting--I use any technique that gives me the artistic touch that I am looking for. My only personal requirement is that the quilt is usable as a blanket and durable.

Quilting style is like a work in progress and change is part of learning.  Repo fabrics and patterns are my main stay but I like to spread out and experience some of all.  Art quilts still try my patience but something has to be done with the leftovers.  Quilt shop fabrics are the best and Bernina is my sewing companion.  We will not go into my stash as it can fuel many quilters.

As I grow older, I am finding that I like to try everything. My LQS is so wonderful--what they show me, I want to try. I never cared for patchy quilts--now I love them. I am 79 years of age, and hope and pray that I live long enough to try it all. I'm amazed at all the new techniques, etc. out there. I have always preferred pastel colors, yesterday I purchased an Amish quilt of the month with the most vivid colors I ever saw and I just can't wait to work on it. I have been around quilters most of my life, but never was allowed to quilt--just to play under the frame. How I wish I had started earlier (I started quilting in 1993 when I retired). I Love it all.

With my new Ellisimo Gold I've also added some embroidered blocks in a quilt I'm making for my grandson.  Seems there is always some new idea or pattern I see and want to try, with each quilt-guess that's what keeps us quilting.

I don't know that I am sure what kind of quilter I am just yet. I think I have a little bit of modern, a little more contemporary, and probably mostly traditional. And yet, those I have quilted thus far are more a blend of contemporary and traditional, than modern. However, still in the process of learning new things, so who knows what I'll end up really being: traditional, modern, or contemporary?!? I'm still learning, and loving most of the lessons I get from everything, and I do mean everything!, on this site and Quilty classes I've taken.

Elastic!  My third quilt was "Tennessee Waltz" and it turned out great! My friend enjoyed it for years before she went to dance among the stars with her husband.  I like to challenge/stretch myself and tackled a small donation quilt - totally hand made.  If you don't stretch out of your comfort zone you will keep making the same thing over and over (not a totally bad thing).  So far I've only made two of the same pattern all because I used five colors instead of three colors like the rest of my class. So stretching gave me two quilts (Around the Twist) to give to long time friends and an appreciation of directions.  I have always liked to go driving and get "lost" and that's how my quilting is.  I stretch and grow and get lost and found and enjoy the journey.

I like the traditional quilts.  I have a tendency to be start a quilt and work and work until I know how it is going to look, then I will kind of back off on working on it and get involved in yet another quilt and keep on working on both of them and at some point in time perhaps a third quilt will get into the mix.  However i usually do get them finished and sometimes finish them almost at the same time.

I also now LOVE batiks and I've grown to love large scale designs. I have graduated to bright colors as opposed to pastels. As a relative newcomer to the craft (have only been quilting for about 7 years) I consider myself to still be evolving.  When a quilt or pattern catches my eye, I set out to learn how to make it.  If I had to put a name to my style, I'd call it "traditional with a modern twist".  I really appreciate all of the traditional block designs and fabrics, but I am also drawn to our more modern fabrics and will often try to incorporate them into a relatively traditional design.

Now I quilt whatever I want and try lots of new things.  The only quilting I don't do now is traditional.

How do I determine the type of quilter I am?  This is a tuff one.  I love the art of quilting, from traditional patterns to pictoral art quilts.  If its made with cloth and thread, I like it and like to work with it.  For me, its the challenge of accomplishing something fabulous from bits and pieces.  The enjoyment of learning new techniques or rediscovering old ones are what intrigues me the most.  Like many others, I enjoy the hunt for that one fabric that jumps out at me and says, "buy me, I'm the one for "X" quilt".  I'm drawn more to the batiks and bright colors but also enjoy the look and textures of the traditional and period fabrics and patterns as well.  Overall, I like to think of my style as modern ecletic, variety is what draws me to quilting.

My style varies depending on what the fabric says to me.  If the fabric screams traditional quilt at me, I may create something using flying geese or Dresden plates.  However, if the fabric is modern and funky I will look for a modern pattern to incorporate the fabric in.  If I have batiks that I can't wait to use, I will look for a quilt pattern that looks may have a "tropical" theme.  The one area of quilting I haven't tried but really want to is art quilting.  I love the idea of taking photographs and using snippets of fabric to re-create it in a quilt.

I am a new quilter and so far I love everything I see and do.  My first quilt was a Bargello and the last one I did was an uncontrolled scrappy.  I loved doing both of them and the 9 patches I have done in between.  My style, eclectic, If I see it, can understand the instructions, then I do it.  The fabric selection and collection, (my stash is already huge) is addicting.

I always thought of myself as a traditional quilter with a modern twist, who dabbles here and there in some of the other methods.  However, recently I was told I'm an artistic quilter who relies on the traditional.  lol.....who knows or really cares.....I'm just in it for the fun and joy it gives me to create and then share with my family members in the form of beloved gifts.

Quilting style, you ask?  Oh my!!  I would have to say that I mix traditional and comtemporary, but no hand quilting for me.  I prefer to do machine quilting, and may add machine embroidery.  I do like some of the traditional patterns, but prefer the newer, revised patterns that incorporate the use of rotary cutting and other piecing short cuts.  Too much to do in life, and I do a lot of other forms of handwork.

the patterns in the fabric, the pattern itself, and the mood of the day, sort of like the soup of the day. Hmm, great idea for a quilt to start, thanks QCA and friends.

I consider myself a Traditional Quilter. I piece my blocks by machine, but all I have ever done is hand quilt.

Having said that, I am beginning to spread my wings. I am currently making a few small quilts using more funky fabric and non-Traditional designs. I will be trying my hand at machine quilting. These small projects will be my attempt to try some of the new quilt patterns, learn a new technique, and/or practice machine quilting.

I will be leaving the hand quilting for heirloom quilts only.

At this point, I'm more linear, but am looking forward to becoming talented enough to do circles and appliques. I too do all my own simple quilting because I like the design and the fabric to speak for itself.  This too shall change!  I like to create my own patterns and I am lucky enough that I can recreate pretty much anything I see without a pattern.

I think we put ourselves in boxes by trying to be a type of 'quilter'.  We're artists, every one of us, and think if we label ourselves as one type, we're not exploring ALL the great pieces of true art we make.  You can make even the most traditional quilt a piece of art with the simple love we put into each step.

My quilting style first came from a college community class that started me out on a 35year adventure going from very easy traditional quilting (Log cabin) to now being very versitle with what I do depending on what I am feeling inside of my heart. If it is made for an immigrant pregant poor mother, it is bright, cheerful and full of bounce.  For a foster child, it has good feelings with some fun for them & made so that they KNOW that someone cares about them.  For my family all I sew are things that they like, with mixed traditional, applique, machine fancy stitching, etc.  I TRY to keep in mind that all are made with love from down deep in my heart.  Yes, the cost counts, but can one really put a money amount on LOVE?  I don't think so!  Quilting by hand IS love flowing through my hands from my heart.

I try to do a little bit of everything. Paper piecing still has me baffeled but eventually I will figure it out. I love traditionaly quilts but then I also like making up my own patterns as I go. I like applique as well. I have made all of my children and grandchildren quilts, plus donated baby quilts to the local pregnancy center as well as veterans.  Each one requires a different type of quilt so I just go with whatever I'm feeling at the moment.
