I have to admit I like the nine patch, I know its an easy block ,but it can be used in so many different patterns and changed around so it never looks the same . All you need is a good imagination and some great fabric. Barbara

I haven't done a lot of different blocks yet; but, I love the versatility of the log  cabin block. There are so many variations of the block itself and, the layout options are endless (I think).

I love stars--my favorite is Evening Star  or Sawtooth Star--called many different things.

Used in so many quilts!  Different sizes, centers, colors, etc. but all beautiful.

One version I saw lately even makes the stars look like fireworks in a dark

summer sky!  It is new and yet old...carries on the tradition of our quilter ancestors

and can look new and fresh and colorful.

Log Cabin is my favorite one, it can be placed in so may different layouts that are almost endless and each one looks different and unique with different colors and fabrics. One of the first ones I made was in golds and greens to remind me of the farmer's fields. I used the furrow placement and fussy cut the one piece and used the half log cabin placement for the fabrics, It is in memory of my husband who was always a farmer at hear.

My favorite quilt block is "Hunter's Star".  I was asked by a friend to make a wall hanging for a friend who was getting married.  He used my friend's back-40 for hunting, so the Hunter's Star seemed appropriate.  I love the exactness of this block and the drama of using only two fabrics.

I like the log cabin.  It can be used in quilted projects as one would use half square triangle blocks in a large way.  By resizing some of the blocks, the blocks can create curves and other designs.  Add some extra cornerstones or triangles here and there and it creates sub-blocks within the cabins.  I think it is very verstile.

This is probably one of the most difficult survey questions asked. It seems each time I start a new quilt, I am in awe of the block, (or blocks), I am currently working on. I always try to make different quilts with different patterns. I am in love with the Double Wedding Ring. Because of the difficulty, time, effort, love and prayers that go into each DWR, I think it is truly a very special block.

The very versatile "54 or Fight" star block is my favorite. I used in it my 3rd quilt for a friend who was 99 at the time I was sewing it. She slept under it for 4 years before she became a shining star in the night skies.  It is difficult for me but I do enjoy overcoming obstacles but you can use the easy four patch in it and jump from difficult to easy in one block that really makes it doable.  Paired with the snowball block makes for eye teasing circles that aren't really there.  Try it you just might like it, too.

My favorite block is the Road to Oklahoma. Oklahoma celebrated it's 100th anniversary being a state in 2007. I thought about what I could do to remember this milestone in a quilt. Then, I decided to put a Road to Oklahoma block on the back of my quilts. One corner has the label, another has the Road to Oklahoma. I have continued this tradition, and people will flip the quilt before they admire the front, to see the block on the back! It's a fun and quick block.

How do I pick a favorite blocl. Certainly, it appears I like sunbonnet sue. I'm also a fan of the 9-patch, Ohio Star and Churn Dash. Drunkard's Path is also interesting to work with the many designs it creates. Over the years, though, I have found many other blocks that I like, so I really don't have a favorite - 54-40 or Fight, Nosegay, Robbing Peter to Pay Paul, Bear's Paw. I'm more like Carrie Hall and would like to make one of every block to see how they all go together, and document them for future generations in current fabric styles.

My all time favorite would have to be the Mariner's Compass.  Close behind it would have to be Feathered Star and New York Beauty.  I love points and complexity which I find give me lots of opportunity for color patterning.  Also, I hand piece everything, no paper piecing and I always have people looking at the back of my blocks in astonishment that I haven't paper pieced them.

My favorite quilt block is the Churn Dash. It reminds me so much of my grandmother. I remember her showing me, when I was a young girl, how to put this block together. I didn't really appreciate her wisdom at the time, but not I am so glad that she started the quilting "spark" in me. I don't have just one - but there is a definite 'theme' to my favorite block(s). Any and all star blocks or variations thereof. I love the Ohio Star, Star in a Star, etc. The King's Crown and Crown of thornes are other examples - at least to me - of star variations. These blocks remind me of all the good things in life and hope for the future. They make me smile!

My favorite block is the Carpenter Wheel.  I have tried different fabric variations and love the out come every time. I may love this block mainly because it is not very common, and I do like things that are different, not the same as everyone else does.

BTW - thanks for the free Batik ebook! Sweet!

I love paper piecing, I look for complicated patterns and try to conquer them, if it isn't a challenge it isn't satisfying to me.  Right now I love the looks of the New York Beauties, mixed with a Mariners Compass.  I also love curved piecing, so drunkards path.

My favorite block is usually the quilt I am working on.  I have used a number of different ones.

but the simple Nine patch has been the one I have used the most in the last few years.  We have had a lot of babies in my family and I use that one to send the gifts.

Right now I am doing a simple square surrounded by other rectangles and squares.  There is no "block" name to this.  I just made it up as I went.

I plan on working on a pattern by Thimbleberries called Vintage Stitches to finally make a quilt for me.

I would have to say that the Nine Patch is my favorite block.  I think it's versatile, I can cut it up and make it into something completely different or just change the position of the darks and lights.  I've made hundreds of them.  Maybe it's the straight lines, something has to be orderly in my sewing room!

All quilt blocks are beautiful. They speak to the artist in each of us. Especially when color and arrangement are taken together with the form. However, because it seems to take all aspects to a completely individual level, and no two are exactly the same, the traditional functional Crazy quilt squares are my absolute favorites. I've never seen two the same, and I've loved them all.

My favorite is Churn Dash - I have made three baby quilts and a table runner with that pattern. My reason for liking it so much is that I fussy cut a center block and coordinate the colors and patterns around the center block.  'The first baby quilt has nursery animals (elephants, ducks and giraffes) and the pieces around have colors that match with the colors in the center, (yellow, blue and mnt green). The second baby quilt has nursery rhyme characters (Jack and Jill, Miss Muffet, etc) with white, green and brown solids accenting around the block. The third has teddy bears accented with brown, green and pink solids. The table runner is fall colors, deep blue, purple and ecru surrounding a fussy cut wine grape motif. Three 9" blocks connected with sashing and bordered and bound in contrasting deep green material completed it. My daughter inlaw has it displayed on a long, glass topped coffee table. All the Churn Dash projects turned out very well, I am going to use the same pattern to make more placemats and quilts.

Churn Block.  I've used it so many times.  It's great to highlight a fussy cut piece.  Or a baby quilt.  It can even be a "manly" pattern.  The possibilities are endless and it looks a little more pieced than just a nine/four patch.  It's easy to do a stitch in the ditch quilting to finish your quilt.

My absolute favorite, is one I figured our myself that I made into a quilt I call "My Favorite Things."  It is very simple and I have never used it again.

The Log Cabin, because it's fairly easy for a newbie like me!

My first quilt that I learned on was the rail fence quilt, which was fun to make and experiment with color placement.  Flying Geese is another favorite.  I made two flying geese quilts, and have used the block in sampler quilts.  I enjoy making the geese blocks.  It is fun to see how they evolve from just a few cuts.  Plus, there are new, cooler and quicker ways of making the flying geese that I want to try.

I really enjoy working with the log cabin block - it was my very first, and can be simple or complicated, however you chose.

My favorite is Log Cabin because it can be made so many different ways and choice of color in a Log cabin can make such a huge difference in how it looks.

I don't have a favorite, log cabin, bear paws and all stars for piecing and I am learning needle turn applique and really like that too.

I think half square triangles are so versatile.  Just by changing color values and placements you can come up with dozens of designs.

"On the Oregon Trail", I've used this block for Christmas projects and it' beautiful, it would be lovely in batik fabrics as well.

My favorite ever since I saw it as a child has been Tumbling Blocks. I love the optical illusion. I like it a lot more now that I'm older since I learned to make it without the "Y" seams.

My favorite quilt block is the one that I get finished! Picking a favorite is extremely difficult as each can be the perfect block for the right quilt. Like Grace I am fascinated by the tumbling block and others that cause my brain to hiccough and my mouth to form a circle and say , "Ooh, wow."

My favorite to look at, but I haven't attempted yet, is the mariners compass.  But to make, I enjoyed the attic window

I really like the hidden star pattern. It's got a great use of negative space and can be so pretty!
