January Member's Survey Contest - What is one quilting goal you would like to achieve in 2012? Winners Announced.

As we enter a new year, many of us make resolutions and set new personal goals. As you assess how you have grown as a quilter, we want to know: What is one quilting goal you would like to achieve in 2012? Do you want to make a challenging quilt? Maybe you would like to visit every quilt shop in your state and make a quilt from all the fat quarters you collect? Nothing is too large or too small...think about what you would like to achieve this year.

To participate in this month's contest, simply scroll down and post your answer in the "Add a Comment" box below. Winning responses are picked at random from all the entries we receive. We will give you until the end of the month to reply and will announce the winners here in mid February.

You could win a $10 gift certificate to ShopFonsandPorter.com. Good Luck!

Congratulations to our 3 winners: hjwathome, Roberta, and Norma!

In 2012 I would really like to finish as many UFOs as possible. I know there will always be some added as I finish others. But I've joined 2 BOM groups and a Crabapple Hill group, and I'm hoping this will help me with some of the UFOs. I also want to return to charity quilting after spending the past 2 years sewing for myself and family. But 4 of the UFOs are for my home. One of them is almost done already...just have the binding to do when it comes back from the longarm. I'll be working on charity quilting while I'm wintering in Arizona, but need to continue when I return home to Ohio. I have a stack of quilts to give but need to find a source and need to label. I also want to form a chapter of Reap What You Sew in Ohio. Being a shut-in has made it a bit difficult, but I haven't given up. It's just harder to make contacts. I'll continue to pray about opportunities.

I would like to spend more time quilting for myself.  2011 was a year that I made quilts for everyone else but had no time for myself.  I have a few wall hangings and table runners in mind that I hope to make for myself.

My goal is to complete my extremely large Judi Niemeyer project with my best buddy.  After this is done, I want to finish as many UFO's as I can (I think my number is around 112 UFO's!)...what can I say...I have a short attention span!  Or is it that I just want to do all the new projects that I see???

My quilting goal is to have my AUNT IRENE, who is 92, teach me her quilting and hand sewing technics and to teach her technics and mine to my Granddaughter who turned 17 today, January 1, 2012. I would also like to finish all the projects I have and want to start this year. To also make more quilts for my favorite charities.

Resolution number 9 of my ten New Year's resolution is to learn a new quilting technique.  I have my eye on a large complex quilt that is done using paper piecing, a new technique.  We also have plans to get together as a family (sister, sister-in-law, niece) to make quilts for the armed forces hospitals as we have two family members serving at this time and other family members preparing to serve in the future.

Organize my sewing room.  I keep having to move things around. Now that I have a real sewing cabinet and an extra room to dedicate to sewing and embroidery I just want to get it organized. We painted the room a light sky blue to make it lighter and my new cabinet is white. I am really excited to get started on it.

I would like to get my fabric stash under control, especially the two big bins of scraps. I need to go through each one and organize the scraps, cutting them into usable pieces. As much as it pains me I may need to let some of the go! I would also like to learn how to free-motion quilt. Now that I have a new machine (thanks, Santa!) that I can drop the feed dogs on there should be nothing to stand in my way!

In 2012 I have many goals. First I want to complete two quilts for my two oldest grandsons, ages 14 and 11. Then I would like to participate in a War of 1812 Quilt challenge by completing a quilt that will be placed on display in a museum in Sackett's Harbor,NY. Last but not least I really would like to remodel my sewing/computer room. It is very small but one thing I would like to create is a shelving unit that doubles as a roll-out cutting table.

In 2012 I would like to quilt in the same room as my sister. She lives 8 hours away, and we have created quilts together for other family members, but one of us does the piecing and sends it to the other for the quilting. My sister is such an inspiration to me, I would love to be in the same place at the same time for quilting together.

I want to push myself to new quilting extremes, making so much from what little I have. Little space, little time, little machines. This past year I have made perfect points through my own pinning techniques, perfected my binding technique and made my largest quilt yet. I plan to work more on art design bed quilts - because if the quilt has use, then the meaning is twofold.

To start and finish a quilt for a wonderful couple (friends of mine) who will be celebrating their 10th anniversary.  I'll be using fabric they had left over from napkins they made for their reception (which I recently acquired from her mother's attic!) and incorporating it into the quilt for their bed.

Heavens!  Talk about a no brainer.  My goal in 2012 is to make my completed, or nearly completed quilt tops into real quilts.  If that should happen (unlikely, I fear), I would then demolish the waist-high pile of projects stored in my closet.  Oh, I wish!

I've only been quilting for one year, but that first year was filled with five projects for special purposes...  Unfortunately, not one of them were for ME!  So, what I would like to do this year is make a quilt that I will be able to keep for my own use!  I know it sounds a little selfish, but I'd like to have something that I won't be giving away!  Perhaps a snugly flannel throw to curl up under this Winter...

I would like to make a quilt for ME. All my children, grand children and family have a quilt that I have made. Even friends have one, now I want to make one for my husband and I. I am always giving my quilting projects away and never keeping any of them for myself, this year I am going to be a little selfish and make something for my home.

I have a queen-sized red, white and black baskets & flower quilt, that I pieces & appliqued about 2 years ago for my bedroom,to finish the machine quilting.

There are at least 2 quilt tops ready to be quilted (I may have a friend long-arm them for me), and another quilt top almost done.  Then there are baby quilts to do (one is in progress, another just a pile of fabric) and a lap quilt for a colleague fighting breast cancer (just a pile of fabric still).

My goal in quilting for 2012 is to master free motion quilting---at least improve it a whole lot in 2012, and make a paper pieced quilt for my spare bedroom.  I've never done any paper piecing, so the new group should give me lots of incentive.

Many years back I'd planned to make a quilt for each of my children. I selected the patterns and material and even cut all the pieces but then after I began piecing them together we found out my husband's job was moving and I was very busy with that. After our move I became ill and stopped sewing. Now I'd like to get back to making those quilts and either use them for grandchildren or perhaps donate them. I'd also like to clean up, organize and inventory my stash this year, something I'm sure my husband would appreciate since I'd be more likely to use the fabrics if I knew exactly what I have.

At the risk of sounding like many of the other members...one more thing we have in common...I am hoping to finish at least half of my unfinished projects (I'm down to about 13.) My foremost quilt is one I have been working on for seven years off and on. It is a huge project for one of my daughters. The top has over 3000 pieces in it and the back has a Mariner's Compass in the center. I always do back art for my quilts and got a little carried away this time. I'm wanting to take it with me to give it to her when I visit in April. I'm also hoping to get one project finished each month for next Christmas. I also need to make some more Christmas pillowcases for the newer family members.  Maybe I should quit work and concentrate on these more important things??? lol  Ruth

I am a new quilter. Maybe piercer would be a better word. I started a Block of the Month quilt the fall of 2010. I wanted to learn 'how to'. Boy did I learn. I just finished the quilt Christmas day. I run out of material, patience, and feeling in my fingers finishing the binding. But finish it I did! My goal now is to work on the kits and baby blankets that I have lined up for the babies coming this spring. And to be able to sew a straight line. :)

I want to learn to machine quilt using my domestic sewing machine.  That way I could tackle the huge pile of quilt tops that keep growing weekly.  If I could get one quilt finished every two weeks I would be sooooo happy.  Happy New Year to all

I would like to complete 3 quilts this year. One is for my younger sister and it is an applique quilt bed cover she has been waiting for. The other two are for me or up for sale. I also need to clean my sewing room to be prepared for transferring to another room setup. My husband will be building me a new sewing table and closet space for storage.

I would like to finish that one and surprise her with it.  She still doesn't know that I started it.   I also have a couple of quilts that are still just tops.  I'd like to have the nerve to actually try machine quilting a small quilt with my domestic sewing machine.  These are some goals for 2012 that I have.

I am a finisher...with my quilt store gift certificate from my husband for Christmas, I will be using my own stash and purchasing sashing and border fabrics. I have the fabrics for quilts in different styles, including a 30's reproduction, Kansas Troubles sampler, antique reproduction, modern handquilted, several special occasion wallhangings and a few bags and stuffed projects. This will be a productive and seriously fun year of quilting. Wish me luck! I am so excited about being creative and productive.

I am determined to have these done before Christmas 2012. They all include 1 for me and gifts for others--some there are 7 gifts, like the pincushions in the first project, one there is 3 gifts, one, has 1 for me and 1 gift...and the wallhanging is ALL for me.......I will be a firsttime quilter doing all these things....Grew up sewing clothes....Loved fabric and gathering it...now I need to use it.

If I don't get any other project done this year, it has to be the quilt for my 16yo daughter.  Her quilt of 8 years died (Walmart flannel for a backing - yes, I did learn my lesson), and I cut it into blocks, am quilting a new backing on the individual pieces, and will sew them right sides together, and then finish the back with strips of fabric to cover the seams.  I started it in April, promised it by the end of the summer, then promised it by Christmas.  Not good.  Needs to be done by her birthday in May.  Or at least by the end of the year.  Or before she turns 18.  Or leaves home.  Or gets married...

The most important challenge is to complete baby quilts for both of my daughters. Both are expecting, one in March and one in May. I always have far too many projects going with lots of good intentions, but procrastinate. Having a goal date keeps me motivated, but often leaves UFO's when the date passes with an unfinished quilt. I have an applique quilt consisting of 12 blocks with flower basket applique's by Sue Garman that is going to be the first thing I finish in 2012.  I have been working on it for 3 years, but I keep getting sidetracked with charity quilts for my little quilt ministry that I have.  Other ladies give me the pieced tops and I do the quilting.   In 2011 we did 24 quilts for the homeless plus 5 I did for money.  Yeah!!

As many others have stated, those UFO's are thorns in my side.  Some of them are large and i do not have anywhere to strech them but the floor.  I don't think my back or knees could take hours of that!  I also wish to get better at quilting on the machine to move forward with those UFO's - hand quilting is much more time consuming.  I always try to teach others what I've learned in quilting so that they get more enthused to continue in the craft.  My goal is to pass what I've learned forward.

Like many others have stated, it seems I am destined to make 2012 the year for completing Unfinished projects.  Also, I am a large Charity contributor of quilts and other quilted items and wish to continue this work, all from my stash as I have resolved not to purchase more fabrics this year but to make this the year of total stash reduction.  Then in 2013 I can purchase away to my hearts content knowing my stash has finally been reduced.  However, like everyone else, winning more fabric or notions never hurts, does it?

My goal is to complete a quilt for my friend Cathy.  A mutual friend (Maybelle) of ours started this quilt for Cathy's young daughters.  Maybelle passed away suddendly last summer before finishing this quilt.  She had the top completed and was working on machine quilting the quilt.  The only areas left in the quilt to finish machine quilting was the four borders.  I have not done much machine quilting but told Cathy that I would try to finish this extra special quilt for her girls.  I have been practicing machine quilting on a smaller project (table runner) and feel that I am ready to tackle the quilt borders.  When I finish machine quilting the borders I will then add the binding and present the completed quilt to Cathy and her girls.  I know that it will be a treasure for all of them and a comfort for the girls to lie under such a wonderful gift that Maybelle had made for them.

I too would like to finish those UFO's!   With the up-coming arrival of my new computerized LongArm this should become a real posibility this year.   I look forward to keeping a record of all the tops (about 25 last count) that become quilts in 2012.   The quilting step has been my hangup! I love the piecing/applique part as it lets me feel the fabrics, don't mind the making the label part as I use an embroidery machine for that and binding gives me a chance to sit and watch (listen) to a movie or recorded TV programs (makes for a nice day).   But now I am looking forward to the quilting part too.

My goal in 2012 is to make a quilted bed spread, about 120" by 120" using a thimble berry pattern from the book the Beautiful quilts.  I will have to change the block size and that will take some adjustment since each block is different.  I will also have to make a curtain for a window to match.  Not sure how that will be but I have plenty of fabric so the challenge is on.

My goal is to finish some of the tops I have in the cupboard.  There's a Christmas quilt top in there that is now about three years old, but there are other tops in there way older than that.  Time to finish them off as I originally intended or finish them as a charity quilt, either way they won't be hiding in that cupboard being useless anymore.

My quilt club has decided that this month each member will bring one to three UFOs.  By November or December each of those projects is supposed to be finished.  If you don't like one of your UFOs, you may pass it off to another member who would like to finish it (and keep it).  It will also be a great time to discuss problems you may be having finishing a project, and get some helpful suggestions from other members.  I've pulled out two UFOs that have been languishing for years.  This really gets me going.

SO - My goal (and I think it is reachable) is to make TIME for just SITTING DOWN, and then starting on WHATEVER IS AT THE SEWING TABLE.  I have a lot of "false starts" on so many projects, and if I just go in with a blindfold, and pull something out, I will take the TIME to just go and go and go, until whatever project it is, will get done.

I would like to finish at least five UFOs, including at least one BOM.  I do have space problems in my itty bitty little house, but still, I feel guilty about finishing a charity quilt top six months ago and still not getting it quilted.  It's only 40x60, so I should be able to find some place to sandwich it so I can stitch it in the ditch and get it mailed off.  And I finished my husband's Father's Day quilt top on time, but it's still sitting in a project bag, with backing, waiting to get assembled.  I really need to get my act together.

I have three children 2 girls and 1 son. I have made each of the girls more than one quilt but have yet to make my son one. I think it is because I can relate better to the pretty girly fabrics. So my main goal is to find a nice masculine quilt and make my 13 year old son his very own quilt. He never complains about not having one but when I told him I wanted to make him one he said ``really MOM`` I know just the type of fabrice I want (camouflage)!

I would like to make a quilt for myself. I am always falling off the bottom of the priority list! So many times, visitors have said, "So, show me your quilts!" And I have none to show -- I make them all for other people and I'm lucky if I remember to take a picture before they are out the door. My 1-yr-old grandson already has three quilts!

The Number one goal I'd like to achieve in 2012

1. I would LOVE  LOVE Love to Goooo quilt shop hopping to increase my stencil stash for my 14 quilt tops I need to quilt on my sewing machine this year. I'm sort of new at sewing machine quilting on my own sewing machine.

Will it be ok to mention another goal?

2. Make a complete diary and labels of my  finished and unfinished quilts. This is so important that we document these for so many reasons.

UFO's are always popular resolutions - but I am too late in life to set unrealistic goals.  Most quilts I have made have been for other people.  This year, my goal is to make a quilt for me to sleep under at my daughter's house when she delivers my first grandchild.  She has selected her colors and has 6 more months until her delivery date - I am selecting the pattern and warming up my machine.

My goal in my quilting life for 2012 is to finish what I have started - to do the best that I can possibly do not to quickly do anything but to settle down and enjoy the process.  I have so many things that I want to do in quilting that I rush through them all - I am slowing down in 2012 and working hard to perfect my skills.  I have so much fabric and so many UFO kits to finish up - I want them done and out of my house to the house that they should be living in.  And I want to learn something new this year - to go beyond my comfort zone and do something new and exciting that will motivate me and excite me.  And probably last but not least to meet up with my Quilting friends at the retreats this year with tons of energy to be able to keep up with all of them... I guess that is more then one goal but not sure how to reduce it to just one...lol

Several years ago, I was so attracted to a quilt that was on display at my favorite quilt shop that I purchased the pattern and material to make a king-sized version of the quilt for my own bedroom that would be the launching point for redecorating the room.  At some point I did cut the fabric in preparation to sew it together. Then, I proceeded to make baby quilts, gifts, purses, donation quilts, everything but my own quilt.  My goal for 2012, is to put this quilt together so I can transform my bedroom and enjoy the accomplishment that comes with completing this goal. I should mention that I have never made a king-sized quilt so that too will be an accomplishment for me.  I know I can do this in 2012!

We are a very small church and not many members are able to help with these projects so I am hopeful that we will be able to get this accomplished

In 2012 I would like to learn how to machine quilt (freehand quilting) on my own machine.  Last year I learned how to use a long-arm quilting machine and would consider my skills "adequate".  Since I have neither the space or financial resources for a long-arm at home, I have to schedule rental time at a near-by quilt shop to complete my quilts, wallhangings and tablerunners.  It would be nice to become proficient (or even "adequate") at freehand quilting using my Bernina at home!

I would like to make another art quilt and enter it in a national contest.  I have never entered or shown my work until last year, and actually got selected in that contest, so now I am inspired to try something on a larger scale.

I have many goals but the one that is the highest on my list is to recreate and document a quilt my great grandmother made for her granddaughter (my aunt) for her 10th birthday in 1926. The original has 40 to 50 embroidered designs on blocks made from squares from men's clothing.  My great grandmohter was living on a farm in northeast Kansas.  She lived 97 years and I have some blocks she made and finished a  bowtie quilt in 1956 she had started for my brother. I think the designs in quilt have a lot of symbolism that I do explore.

There's the ever present finish more UFOs than start new projects.  Then there's the organize the stash, cut scraps into usable pieces goal.  More achievable - I'd like to do a log cabin quilt and a sampler quilt with blocks that are autobiographical (such as state blocks from where I've lived, blocks that show interests and hobbies, etc).

I am always looking to learn new techniques, and to improve the skills I have now. I have made birthday quilts for over 50 fellow nurses, also I have made and donated over 100 charity quilts. I am self taught for over 10 years now.  My hope is to open a quilt shop this year. I will continue this year to make as many beautiful quilts as I can and hopefully bringing some joy, happiness and comfort to all that I can. I just want to touch others. God gave me a talent and I love to share it.

I would love for my fledgling business to take wings and fly. I'm a quilter and now have a longarm machine that is just too cool for words. Quilting is so much easier and quicker now, and no pain involved. My arthritis loves this machine so much it gets lost in the sewing.  My designs are more intricate no more "ho-hum" designs, no more just getting it done, my quilting has grown wings of gold. Now is the year and the time for me to fly!

I would like to finish my first quilt for myself and my sweetheart.  I have donated many quilts over the past 10 years to: children at David's House at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital; comfort quilts to hurricane victims; surviving siblings of accidents; teen hospital patients; fire victims; police cars; The Child Advocacy Center; 5 to a family with a severely handicapped child; memory quilt from a spouse's shirts; 30th Granite Man Triathlon t-shirt quilt to the mom of the event's namesake; babies of town employees; the Gundalow Society fundraiser; 1 year anniversary for a heart transplant recipient; etc.  I teach children how to make quilts at an afterschool program.  But I never get around to finishing one for home because the others always seem more pressing.  2012's goal is to complete a UFO (and I do have several, ok, I have lots!) for my sweetie.  After all, I'm turning 62 so I better get going.

I want to finish a quilt I started in the late 1970's called Mohawk Trail.  At the time, I thought it would be "easy" since all the pieces were the same shape.  All the pieces were cut out (940!), two blocks completed, and some units for the blocks were hand pieced together.  I've started and am continuing with the hand piecing and hand applique.

The 2nd one is to start an online business.  I've been wanting to do this for some time.  I can't quit my day job yet, but I've always wanted to have my quilting on a site and either sell some of my quilts or my patterns or quilt labels or quilted greeting cards (or all of these!)  I am working towards this goal this year.

Wellllll....where do I start! LOL...My biggest goal this year is to get my studio built.  It would make my dream come true!  and my house would be home again instead of the storage for my terrible habit of quilting!  On a more serious note... My true, down to the blood that flows in my heart, goal is to teach some local students and American Legion Auxillary members how to make Quilts of Valor.  I would like to present and/or complete at least 1 QOV for each month this year.  Even if it hairlips the Pope!  It's all I want to do now since I've discovered their foundation.  I wish I could pay the light bill doing QOVs.  Life would be about as close to perfect as it could be if that were possible.  In March I have organized a bike run to raise money for 'Operation Valor' at my American Legion and at each stop we make I will be presenting a QOV to various members and warriors on the run.  It will be GRAND! I am looking forward to it so much!  I know I'll have to bring layers and layers of makeup with me from all the crying that will be involved! My last QOV on the run will be presented to the Commander at my post whom I have grown to look at as a father figure in my life.  He has been instrumental in many of my choices in life recently.  It will make me so proud to finally present him (Vietnam POW) with his own QOV.  Sometime this year I will also present QOV's to my brother (active duty/just returned 5th deployment to Iraq/Army) and his wife, also a veteran/Navy.  It will be a GRAND year for my heart indeed.  So please say a few Hail Mary's for me to get it all done!  FOR GOD and COUNTRY!

I want to make a quilt out of silk fabrics this year.  I've been collecting silks for years, and finally think I have enough to make, oh, maybe a crazy quilt, maybe a wall hanging with appliqué, or even a landscape quilt.  Last fall my guild had a quilter's garage sale and a gentleman showed up with boxes and boxes of discontinued silk upholstery samples.  He wanted so little money for them, I had to buy some.  They are the impetus for my silk quilt as I'm convinced I have enough fabric for a really good one.

Hopefully in the next 5 years I will be able to retire from my daily job and can start enjoying quilting while not tired and squeezing in a few minutes to sew.  I have never taken a quilt from start to finish. I want very much to do this. Also my goal is to get my sewing room organized so that when I quilt I can find the things I need when I need them, not spending valuable quilting time looking for the right tool. Good luck to everyone with their new year's resolutions no matter what they may be.

I think I'd like to make a quilt for each of my brothers and sisters (including BIL and SIL) this year. I've made quilts for their kids, and although the kids love them, they outgrown them. The adults in the family love the quilts and we just don't give each other enough credit for how hard we all work and what a great family we've raised together.  If I made one for their birthday, I won't have to have the first done until April. However, there are 3 in May. I have two tops for one sister and one brother, just have to get them quilted, so just need to make one for the other sister in May.  Then next wouldn't be due until the end of July and then the last two aren't until December. I should be able to pull this one off.

I started a fall-themed queen-sized bedspread-quilt last fall, after our retirement move from southern California, and getting the house pretty much liveable.  Didn't finish it, surprise, surprise.  That's my main goal.  An equally important goal is to get my boxed-up fabric (in the basement) out of boxes and onto shelves so I have a chance to find what I want.

The fall quilt needs borders added, for which  I have all the fabric, backing, quilting and binding.  I am a machine-quilter, using my Pfaff for all quilting.

Like what appears to be 95% of those responding I'd like to finish my UFO's but that isn't top of the list.  I'd really like to finish blocks from Women of the Bible study so I can send a quilt to my bff's  Fred and Judithanna who are both retired Methodist ministers.  They have been with me through thick and thin and a quilt is long passed due.  Then perhaps I can work on repossessing my sewing room from the rest of the family...dogs, cats, daughter's tools and recycling.

I have many goals for 2012.  The first one is to start and complete three charity quilts.  In three weeks I have completed one that will be turned into the quild this week and have pieced and quilted two others.  I am on my way to meeting this goal.

Second is to focus on a quilt show challenge due in March for voting.

Third is to complete a few UFO’s that have been hanging around for too many years.

The second half of the year I plan to begin work on a large complex applique quilt, I have been practicng my stitches for over a year.  I also want  begin a new quilt for the next qult show that will be scheduled in two years.  Most of all I want to have fun and enjoy the hobby with all of my quilting friends.

To stay focused I plan to make a copy of these goals and place it in my sewing room to keep me on track, wish me luck.  Happy Quilting to all and good luck with your goals too.

I have been reluctant to try piecing a star block, so I want to expand my repertoire and learn to piece this. I have been collecting batiks for the Celtic twist quilt and plan to start cutting this week. Good luck & God bless all of us happy stitchers!

I do much better at teaching in a class, but I strugle to write something that sounds intelligent. Webster and I are very good friends. Oh yes I also would love to use up my stash in this life time. What is one quilting goal you would like to achieve in 2012?  Even though I have many quilting goals for this year (completing UFO's, learning to paper piece) I would like to learn how to design a quilt.  Most magazines shows the piecing of the blocks but how do you learn the best 'quilting' for that pieced block for the overall quilt? In addition how to mix multiple fabrics that has designs into one quilt and have the quilt flow pleasantly for the eye.

I bought some small artsy quilt kits (fusible applique) and almost forgot I had them.  I'll work on some of them for various fund-raising activities sponsored by organizations I belong to.  But my first time at assembling a genuine "pieced" quilt is a queen sized spread for a new retreat center for our diocese.  They are renovating/remodelling our convent and asked for quilt donations for all the new sleeping rooms.  Some parishes have completed several quilts.  Ours is a very small congregation, but I took it upon myself to commit to one quilt from our parish.  I hope to have some of my fellow parishioners help with assembling and sewing together the quilt top now that I have all the fabric cut and the more precise blocks sewn.  A lady in a sister parish has a longarm and will do the quilting for us.  Then I get to learn how to put the binding on :).  To help pay for the fabric, batting, and thread, my DH suggested we ask for sponsors for each of the different fabric patterns and other components.  We succeeded in getting donations for almost 100% of the cost of materials.  I would like to take a carload of parishioners down to the new retreat center to present our parish's quilt in person.

Now that I find out my illness is terminal , my goal is to make each of my family members and grandchildren quilts that they can use as hugs from me when I am not here. I have no stash, I am just starting it from scratch. The quilts will be simple patterns to conserve on time but they will be hand quilted and full of love and hugs. Pretty big project so I think I will have to live longer :)

Reduce my stash, finish at least 6 quilts on my "To Do" list, and catch up on my documentation.  Last summer I spent 2 months documenting the quilts I have made, starting with the first in 1981, and am now down to only about a dozen undocumented.  Unfortunately those are ones I have given away, so I am having to ask the recipients for pictures and sizes.  I really wish I had started documenting when I started quilting!

I'm embarrassed because the recipient is a faraway friend who is so kind he never asks what happened to his quilt! It doesn't have to be a marvelous work, it just has to be DONE.

After being away from quilting for 16 years I retired in September and have just completed my 30th quilt top with all tops have all been sewn within the past six months but I have yet to quilt them.  My goal this year is to save enough of my social security checks to purchase a longarm machine so I don't have to purchase time on a longarm machine at my local quilt shop.  I really need to bite the bullet and get my own.  I donate most of my quilts to Quilt of Valor, Wounded Warrior, and Project Linus and a machine would really save me a lot of time and expense.  My daughter's wedding quilt is underway so it will be added to the stack (hopefully finished by August 31st.  I love finished projects best of all, don't you?

I did a wall hanging of a flower picture my granddaughter, Lily, did for me when she was six years old.In December she was 16,that was her present. So now my goal for 2012 is to be able to do the same for my two granddaughters and to also teach them that they can quilt .Don't wait 60 years like I did.I found that it sure was fun and the day really passed to fast.

My goal is to make a quilt or two with my fabric stash! I need room to put new fabric and what better way to find it than clean out my stash.

I have 13 year old twin grandaughters that have been patiently waiting for me to make their quilts for a long time.  That is my major goal, and I would like to make at least one charity quilt a month.  So I am already behind for the year.  Guess I have to be really busy in February, March, April, etc.

I have so very many quilt tops close to finishing, but not quite there.  My quilting goal in 2012 is to finish enough so everyone in my home can have a new quilt for Christmas this year.  As we have 5 kids still at home, that means 7 quilts: one for each of our children, one for our master bedroom, and one for the room my mother-in-law will use this Christmas.  The tops are all started, finished, or in the process of being quilted ( I like to "quilt as you go"), so there is much to do!

My goal?  Really more of a dream.  To sort and organize the room I use for all my crafts and sewing.  I have no UFO's waiting to be finished but hundreds of patterns and ideas to start.  I have almost every quilting tool (no long arm ) and a great sewing machine, more fabric than I will ever use.  I read every email and am member of several online clubs so spend my time reading and watching the videos and feel like the people are really my friends.  I have made quilts for family and friends so just to make one more would be nice.

I have two UFO's on my list that I've decided I just MUST finish.  Then I'd like to start working on a Civil War reproduction quilt with the fabric I've been collecting. This would be just for me (and my husband since it will go on our bed) since most of what I make I give away.  So far I'm on the right track as I'm working on one of my UFO's now!

I plan on finishing a Double Wedding Ring quilt that I started for my second daughter.  I hoped to have it finished for her wedding 2 years ago, but did not get it finished and it was just left sitting.  I am close to having the top completed, so would just need to layer and machine quilt.

For some time I have wanted to try my hand at making a landscape quilt. I've looked in Landscaping quilt books and on-line products. Also seen a few at the Quilt Shows. Now just recently I attended the Road to California Quilt Show in Ontario California and was totally amazed, awestruck, at some of the fabulous landscape quilts. I could just imagine being within one of those scenes that were on display, it was all so lifelike and reminded me of an artists painting. Wow I thought, could I capture something that beautiful with my imagination, machine, and fabric. I now tell myself, enough drooling, get going. So that is my quilting goal for 2012.

I am attempting to make up all the quilts that I have hand embroidered over the past few years.  I have several baby/children quilts as well as a couple of full size bed quilts to complete. I also received an Accuquilt studio cutter for Christmas so am excited to get started on quilts from the dies I purchased.

I would like to make my grandmother (watching from Heaven) proud.  I would like to try a completely hand sewn project from start to finish.  One of her favorite quilts to make was the Grandmother's Flower Garden.  She collected scraps from every where and made one that was English paper pieced.  It actually looked like you were strolling along the rock patch amongst rolling grass hills and flower beds.  She also quilted it by hand.

I found a pattern for "Grandmother's Snowflakes."  It is English paper pieced, and a smaller, more manageable project.  I have started the project.  I watched a video segment that showed how you can use a small plastic storage container and keep all the parts and pieces together and take it with you to appointments/trips/etc. and it is real easy to pull out for 10 minutes or 2 hours.  I have put together my little case, and plan to keep it very handy.

I have several quilts for which I have purchased fabric which I would like to complete this year.   Two are very challenging.   I would also like to learn longarm quilting.

My goal for 2012 is to keep focus on my goal for 2012. Which is to complete my ufo's and to make quilts from my stash only.  Fabric is so expensive these days.

My goal for 2012 is to be more confident and comfortable with my quilting. To be alright with the fact that my quilts may not be perfect but they are still beautiful and they may make someone very happy. To make each quilt a learning process and accept that they are stepping stones to the next lesson to be learned.

I would like to actually finish some quilts.  I enjoy the making the squares/tops, but get excited about a new pattern and never get around to quilting & binding.  Have over a dozen tops ready to quilt.  I even bought a quilting table and awesome machine in 2010, but have only used it for one quilt so far.  I'd also like to use up more of my stash, including jelly rolls and fat quarters and quit buying fabric thinking i'll find a project to use it in.

In 2012, I hope to make more quilts for the local cancer treatment center using a greater variety of patterns. And to use more of my stash in constructing these quilts.

In 2012 i hope to make a king size alaskan themed quilt for my daughter for her new home.  Make one queen size quilt for one of my towns local charities to raffel off.  attend our guilds spring retreat and finish projects that have been put aside, and if time allows organize my sewing room and use scraps.
