I'm fairly new, but I love most of the site. A better search engine would be awesome. For instance, if I search the site for "quilt as you go" I get everything that has one or more of those four words and nothing to do with what I'm searching for. Just a thought!   :-)

I enjoy QCA very much - really like the links to Patrick Lose videos.  Would appreciate a more prominent link to the Question of the Month.

I like the idea of a better search engine also.   My initial thought was maybe a random member 'spotlight' - brief interview/pictures featuring one of the members - all in one place.  Or perhaps a guest teacher/well-known quilter that would be willing to answer posted questions/share insights during a particular time period.

I agree with the better search engine...and maybe an "index" of the subjects covered in the video tips.  The tips are great, but having to look through pages of them to find what you are looking for is time consuming and takes away from our quilting time.  Just simple headings, such as, Borders, Mitering, Pressing, Squaring, Backing, etc. with links would be such a big help.

I agree with a better search or sort method.  Also headings for the tips and a way to sort them would help.  The site is getting so big that it is easy to get LOST, especially for those who are new.  It is overwhelming to them.  I am still finding places I haven't investigated yet and I think I have only found the tip of the iceberg!

Marsha-SM wrote re: October Member's Survey Contest - What one thing would make QCA better ... and why?

Explorer just "zapped" me and erased my comment.

I agree with everyone that we need better sorting and searching of the site.  I am just finding the tip of the iceberg so far.  It is so overwhelming for those who are new.  The site has grown so much since I joined, that I get lost sometimes.  Today I am "roaming" and found I haven't seen much yet!  If we all used the tags (I forget to) it would help, but we need to simplify how that is done and teach everyone how to use them.  Some tag-names that are used are getting complicated!

I would love a "go to" for the discussion pages.   Sometimes I would love to go to the middle of a discussion, say page 51 out of 78.  I can't get there except by clicking every couple of pages repeatedly.  Also lke the idea of the posts I have not ready defaulting to "since my last visit" instead of 2 months

Thanks for an awesome site

An index for the free patterns would be helpful, or a way to search them.  Since they are in chronological order, if you are new you would have to flip back through lots of pages to see what is there.  If you could search by size that would be helpful.

A search engine within the "Free Patterns" would be great.  That way when I want to find a purse, or a baby quilt I would have to go all the way through the freebies.

Several comments related to searching. Try putting your words in quotes and it should look for the group of words rather than each of the words separately. That works on some sites.

Hmm good question. More quilt block parties and involvement in them. I think this would make it more active and we could see a wider range of people's talents and would be able to ask them questions and learn from each other that way.

Since I am new here, and not so computer literate, it would be helpful to make using this site easier for the not so computer-savvy. When it takes so long to figure out how to find things, it takes away from my quilting time, and that is not good!

I like a site that gives me links to the different features of the site (contests, patterns, etc.) When I get to the link, I like to be able to sort by a search or by a catagories (price, newest, color, theme, size, skill level, etc.)

Second on my wish-list would be a "how to" help header.  I have had problems responding to specific threads, but it may just be me.   Donna B

It would be nice to increase the capability of the search engine and to cross index the subject, technique, instructor, etc. for the videos.  I think it would be wonderful to have a unique webpage listing all of the quilt shows across the country and their calls for entry - with plenty of lead time so we could have enough time to design and make a quilt for entry into a show or shows.  I know some people make a quilt solely for competition and keep entering the quilt in different shows.  Many of us haven't enter any of the larger shows before so the quilts we've made probably don't fit the measurement requirements, theme, etc. of a particular quilt show.  It would also be nice if a page like that would have videos showing specific examples of what judges look for when they are judging a show.  There are a lot of "general" things we know judges are looking for, but getting down to the nitty-gritty of it would be great!

I love the show and tell gallery but would love to be able to search for a type of quilt (baby, applique, table runner, etc).  Sometimes when I am working on a certain project and need some inspiration, it would be nice to be able to find similar projects to look at and get inspired by.

Instead of looking for ways to make it better you need to work on existing issues with the software service and log in issues it would also be nice if QCA, and Fons & Porter & QNN would be more user friendly within the same site I continue to have issues eve after calling and getting things fixed.

I am so very new, that I would say QCA is right on target and doing a grand job.  My only thing that I have noticed and again, I am new and not familiar with the website; perhaps the web pages could be less busy or more defined.  I am new so once I spend more time at the site and know my way around, I suspect this will be a non-issue.

WOW!  I still have a problem trying to find things that are FREE to members of the Quilters Club of America.  When I do fill out a form, the result is:  "There already is someone with that name etc."

Yes, It is I  It is ME. So I try again filling out the form and get the same answer.

A BETTER SEARCH ENGINE JUST HAS TO BE WHAT IS NEEDED MOST.  I am relatively new at this also.

The last time I was given a gift membership, it was so much easier to find things of interest. A less complicated, time consuming format would mean "See More, See Faster".  (or something like that).

I'd like to see that there would be a place that would tell you what you would need to do to change the sizes of the quilt shown.  You know, if the magazine shows it as a twin, have it somewhere that would show the quantities of fabric needed for a queen size.

A better search site is the main thing that comes to mind for me as well. Possibly an index. Links, we are all spoiled with links. I am a big user of them and I know my peeps are happy.  Also, I think that maybe there should be posting monitors/blog monitors (seemed to have been some personal conflicts going on after a quilt retreat that should have been taken down).   I find that on posts one topic often bleeds into another topic without switching to a new topic post. Someone cataloging and monitoring pictures stored would be useful as well.

I'd also like to see at least a link to Quilts of Valor Foundation www.qovf.org shown on the QCA site. Better yet would be more information about it and perhaps some patterns or ideas for inspiration.

1) I have a long arm machine so anything relating is awesome from tips to video lessons.

2) I would also like to see links to products when they are referenced in your videos.  The 60 degree braid video has a fabulous hexagon templet but no mention of the manufacturer or where to get it.  That being said, I noticed that other members wanted the info on the templet from comments section there too.  Keep up the good work.

It's challenging to navigate around the site, so whether call it an index, directory, or keyword search, definitely need a faster, easier navigation technique. Also, if I have to page over and over, you've lost me. I'm on dialup and need straightforward methods to find what I need to know.

I've already joined but it has provided me with nothing. No one cares to reply to emails I've sent, they are just happy to have my money. Very disappointing from Fons and Porter. So, I'm glad the rest of you are enjoying your membership. Cheers.

I am new to the site and one thing I love is the how-to videos. One suggestion I would make is to put them into categories by skill level and/or subject headings. Right now you can only sort the videos by most recent or favorite, but I would love to find all of the quilting techniques in one place, general tips in another, explanation of notions/supplies in another. That way I could find the video that would help me most wore quickly. It would also be great to have a skill level indicated so I could focus in on the ones that match what I can do. Besides that I love the videos!

I have to agree with the index and directory. I've kind of been fumbling around the site.  Also some help with setting up the blog. And I haven't figured out how to invite someone to be a friend. BUT I'm meeting some great quilters and they are making me feel very welcome. The comments are wonderful. I love seeing all the fantastic quilts everyone has made. The creativity is amazing! Becoming a part of QCA has opened up a new door for me. Thank you for this website! I'm so happy I found it!

I would love to see a different block in each magazine shown in all the different colors/fabrics you can make. I realize there are way too many fabrics to make them all but 15-20 different colors of the same blocks would be great for inspiration.

well I find that the older iI get the harder it is for me to see the computer screen. I know you can make everything larger but i think if you were to make your fonts darker and a little larger it would be easier for seniors to read.If i increase it on my computer then everything everywhere on my computer gets larger so thats not to good. thanks

More white space! So much information, which is wonderful, but sometimes overwhelmed by everything on the page. I think that would help with navigation and in the end more successful "searches". I'm a fan and love the updates.

I think the one thing that would make QCA better, is to set up Scholarship Memberships for the people, like myself, who can't afford the membership but who love to quilt and would love to become members.  There are many reasons today why people may not be able to afford the membership, due to the economy many people are unemployed, my health is poor and I live off of Disability, which is next to nothing, other people may be swimmimg in debt....  There are other Quilting Online Memberships that already give scholarships, so I think QCA should join them in this endeavor.

I'd love to hear about other quilt shops, quilters, their sewing rooms

I agree with organization of search engine and labeling the difficulty of the quilt patterns, and also noting the new skills you might learn doing that quilt.

I would love to see a blog or column for whoops...where member can trouble shoot problems they run into, like solutions if you discovered you just cut the last piece of fabric for you block 1 inch too short. or you run short of fabric and can get any more and you only need 1/4 yard to finish (and you have cut the whole quilt out).  I'm am sure there are lots of mistakes I have not even made yet. I'd love to here how people work their way out of or around problems. I think this would be more specific that just the hints and not specific to any mystery quilt or other activity on the site. If it is organized under a specific column or blog it would be easy to find and easier to go there to post problems

I'm new to this site, too, and have found that is time consuming trying to find what I'm looking for.  The pages seem to be very busy too.   A better search engine would be appreciated to navigate the site. It would also be helpful to list the types of patterns you have (ie: crib, throws, wall hangings, totes, etc.) instead of having them all in one place.  It would be nice if they were rated beginner, intermediate, expert, and so on.   I love this site. It is very informative and useful.   I can sometimes be online for up to two hours and still not find all of what I came to find.

I would love to be able to watch the newest Love of Quilting series online even though they are being shown on PBS. For the last few years, for some unknown reason,  my PBS station has skipped one episode of each series (for the 1800 series it is #1802) An old episode is shown in its place and the skipped episode is never shown even during repeats. By the time they are available online, I have lost track of the one I missed.

I love this site!!!.  The only improvement I can think of is improvement in the search engine.  When I do a search for a pattern I get non pattern related items even though I put pattern in my search criteria.  Example would be Ohio Star Pattern and see what all pulls up.

I have sewn all my adult life, have made a few quilts and alter garments for friends and family.  I love all kinds of sewing and crafts. I have guide some classes for sewing instructing and I also monogram. That being said,I don't sew every day like some people I know. When I get on sites like this one, I'm looking for something that will be fun, quick and easy! I also like how-to videos to remind me or show me the latest techniques and gadgets.

Simple site navigation would be great, too!

I look forward to your newsletters and might I suggest incorporating a simpler site with a basic index to eliminate all the windows that one can get lost in while searching.  It seems to be so time consuming that one tends to give up and just log out to get on with quilting.

Yes, some sort of index would be helpful.  Also, not having to go through all the comments before you can reach this spot would facilitate commenting.  I also noticed many have double/triple/quadruple posted the same comments, could the speed of posting the comment be addressed?  I like being able to connect to others. It is not conducive to finding a subject with having all the different size fonts on the right side so if the subjects could be alphabetized I would visit the site more.  Thanks for doing the survey.

I love all your shows. However, it would be great to have show on miniature quilts, how to effectively handle those small pieces, or some free ones available.  I am now doing smaller projects and there aren't any miniature quilt magazines anymore.  It would be great to learn the techniques, 'secrets' on how to make them. Thank you.

I have only been a member since September of this year so I am not really experienced on your web site but I do love QCA web site.  If you could make your website a little bit easier to get around I believe it would help us newbies a lot.  Thank you.

A better search engine is definitely needed.  When I try to look up a technique, I have to wade through too much stuff that isn't relevant.  I'd also like a list of quilt shows and quilt shops around the country.  That would help when I know I am going to be traveling and want to get my "quilt fix" during the trip.

Well, most of the participants answered in very down to earth ways. I would love the site to be able to make me "get to it" on my quilts. The fabric is just sitting there looking dejected. My reasoning is if the site could "get me to it" I wouldn't feel so guilty - I would feel quilty.

I think a "What's Hot" section for whatever particular topic is getting the most coverage or comments. What everyone is focused on at a glance. Could be what's hot this week or day or month or whatever time frame. Of course it would need a more "quilty name".

I really enjoy this site. The one thing that I believe there could be an improvement is the emails I get for magazines and digital classes. It seems like I have joined the same magazine more than once. I wish the improvements would question you if you do it twice and ask you do you want to extend the services and not allow you to duplicate orders. Also not duplicating emails at different times. One email is sufficient.

I fully agree with the comments about a better search program.  I find  the search frequently does not respond to what I am looking for. I'm sure the topics are probably there, but I can't find them.  Your website could be much more user friendly. It's better than it was, but still needs technical improvement. Quilt Out Loud would be much better if more time was spent on interviewing professional quilters, fabric designers, etc.,  and much less time talking about things unrelated to quilting.  Sometimes it is just boring.
