A Note from
QCA Liz S.
Greetings friends!
There are several important
announcements in this week’s e-newsletter! Be sure you read the Jo-Ann’s
VIP Card article so you can get your new card as soon as
possible. And if you like watching Quilt Out Loud or Quilt
It! The Longarm Quilting Show, but wish you could see it on the
QCA site instead of hopping off and site and reclogging into QNNtv.com –
your
wish has been answered! Have you heard about Quilting
Together in Chicago? QCA is a proud to present this wonderful
one-of-a-kind event! Plus, as a premium member, you’ll get VIP
treatment! You’ll save even more and get extra perks that other
attendees won’t!
Did you take a quilting vacation yet this year?
Over my July 4th weekend I traveled to Illinois for a big cookout with
my mom, 7 siblings and 14 nieces and nephews. Even with all the happy
craziness of a family reunion I still managed to find a new quilt shop
and buy some red, white and blue fabric.
Now that I am back home, I am
thrilled to see that some of our other QCA members decided to take a
summer road trip and meet each other in person for the first time. Do
you recognize these wonderful ladies? They call themselves the East
Coast Bucken-ears and you can read about their quilt shop
travels and stash envy here: The first East Coast Bucken-ears Adventure
I also hear that Gini,
Shellie and Laura (aka
Quiltedwings) almost connected at the Sisters Oregon Quilt Show 2010
which sounded like an awesome destination based on all their comments.
Feeling inspired? Sounds like some of you are
plotting your next road trip together here: Gathering in 2011? Something tells me
there are many more happy QCA member gatherings to come!
Happy travels! And wherever you
go may there always be a quilt shop along the way.

July Member
Survey – Finding a “Pieceful” Moment
July’s survey question comes from member Tammy,
who asks: “What is the most peaceful time of day for you to
quilt?” Since member Sharon Larson finds it
hard to catch a peaceful moment in a house full of grandkids, we also
encourage you to share your strategies for finding some
peaceful quality time to quilt!
Send your answers in to admin@quiltersclubofamerica.com
and include “Peaceful Moments” in the subject line. We’ll give you till
August 10th to reply. Winning responses are picked at random from all
of the entries we receive. Each winner will receive a $10 gift
certificate to KeepsakeQuilting.com.
Congratulations goes out to Helen Petrik,
Rose Wakefield and Anne Sinnott, the
winners of June’s member survey question: “What is the Best GROUP
quilting activity you have ever participated in?” Retreats and charity
quilt projects were especially popular. You can read their stories and
more here: June Member Survey Winners.
Check out
the July video for Jodie’s Sampler!
This month on Jodie’s Block of the Month
Sampler we're onto the Friendship Star blocks which are really
nine patches made of squares and half square triangles. There are only
four of them, so this is an easy month! If you are new to making half
square triangles, this video is for you: Jodie's Sampler: How-To Video #3

What’s
Cookin’ in QCA Groups?
In the Crazy Quilt Group, Nana
says, “Guys you need to check out the media section. Linny
has posted a ton of pictures that are absolutely amazing. I have
never seen such beautiful hand embroidery before” You can view them in
the group’s Crazy Quilt Media Gallery
The Appliqué Group
is planning another group project in the fall. It will feature another
pattern from Bunny Hill Designs called “Snowbound” If you think you
would like to join in on this project, visit the Applique Group and
click on the discussion thread titled: Snowbound
The Dear Jane Group started
working on the Dear Jane quilt pattern back in January, but they are
always welcoming new members who want to take on this amazing patchwork
quilt project. Recently they started a Traveling Fat Quarters!
exchange among their members. Perhaps something similar might make a fun
activity for QCA members in general?
Sylvia's Bridal
Sampler Group sends a big thank you and best wishes out to
Kay (MuttMomKay) for all her great work as their group
leader. She has recently had to step down from her leadership role but
the group is still going strong. Here is a glimpse of Gini’s mix of
nine-inch blocks so far:
Winning Member’s
Tip
This issue’s winning member tip comes from Laura Lee:
“I LOVE quilt
magazines, and I've been collecting several for the 10 years I've been
quilting. But, alas, I’m out of storage! What to do? Aha! I’m going
digital! I'm flipping through each magazine (I devoured each of them
when they first arrived), finding those ‘I want to make this someday’
patterns, and those, ‘Wow, I didn't know that!’ tips. Then I scan them
into my computer, make an Ideas folder and a separate folder for each
pattern in My Pictures, and there they are, ready for me to print them
out someday and sew away! I share the magazines with quilting friends
and give what’s left to the local animal shelter thrift store.”
Do you have a tip you would like to share?
Send it to admin@quiltersclubofamerica.com
and put “Tips” in the subject line. You just might win a $10
online gift certificate to Keepsake Quilting if we use your
tip.
