Memorial Book

Here are the pictures of the memorial book.  Apparently I can only add one picture in each post so I will have several posts,

Kathy

I am here!

Sorry all about the lack of communications.

I am back to work in the school and my kids are starting in with their evening routines.

I am taking a fabric book class this weekend.  Think of scrapbooking and then do it all with sewing supplies.  I'll post pictures after the class.  I will be making a memorial book about my mother-in-law.  Bob and I are walking the following weekend in the Light the Night event in Kalamazoo and I wanted to have something to carry to remember Georga.  For those of you that don't know about the Light the Night, it is the Lukemia and Lymphoma Sociey which researches all blood cancers.  Georga was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and survived 9+ years.  Here is "my page" at the event's site  http://pages.lightthenight.org/mi/Kalamazo09/KWillhite#

Have a great day!!

Time to find my sewing room

After spending the entire summer sewing at the dining room table, I am going to spend the rest of today finding my sewing room.  I have a great room in the basement - it is just so far away from the kids  (sometimes that IS a bad thing).  My DH is so ready for the upstairs to look nice again.

After I clean up, I have to make a quilt block tonight that is due next Thursday night for block exchange.  My only problem is that I have to have it done by Sunday as I can't go next Thursday.

Call 911 if I don't come out of the sewing room tonight!  lol.

Newest quilt top

This is a quilt top I finished piecing.  I used the pattern Yellow Brick Road.  I have titled this one "Sun and Sky".  I had been collecting blue and yellow fabrics to make this for a long time.  I started cutting this out last January.  I am eager to get it finished.  This one is for ME!!!

Amanda's sewing class

I am so excited!!! Amanda had a great time in her sewing class and wants to take more classes!!!!  She did a beautiful job.  Helps that she was on a great machine.  I really need a Bernina!!!!  Here are pictures.

Waning Summer Blues

I can't believe that half of August is already over.  I have just two weeks until I have to go back to work.  I am in a mad dash to "create".  I am piecing a quilt from the Yellow Brick Road pattern.  I will upload pictures when it is pieced.  Part of me doesn't want to go back to work.  I just want to play with my fabric.

My daughter started  a crazy patch quilt class today.  I am eager to see her finished project.   She chose several Asian prints.  She will be taking this class every morning for the week.  Hope she catches "the quilting bug" after this.

Time for bed.

My daughter learning to sew crazy patch

My daughter learning how to sew

I love my Flip camera.  I took video of my daughter for the first time sewing a crazy patch project.  We will make it into a needle case.  (We saw this as one of the videos by F&P)

Great day at the Quilt show

I had the best time with my daughter today.  We saw some really great quilts.  Ate really great food.  And, spent waaay too much money.

Now we are working on a puzzle I purchased today.  It is a quilt related puzzle.  Nice to sit down and do a puzzle now and then.

Looking forward to my traveling child to come home tomorrow.

I'll try to post some pictures after I sort through them.

Going to a Quilt Show Today!

The weather will be rainy today and hot.  Not a good combination for a daughter at Brownie camp.  But, it will be great for the other twin and I to go to the quilt show!  I don't get much one on one time with any of my three kids, so will enjoy some time today with "the youngest".

Last night "the youngest" ( will be 8 in two weeks) and I started working on a small crazy quilt project.  She is very artistic and I Fons and Porter make a small needle case using crazy quilt.  She immediately wanted to do the project.  I can't do bobbin work as I don't have bobbin case, but have Sulky rayon threads and decorative stitches on the machine.  It is looking good!  I'll post pictures after it is finished.

Hope everyone in Sturgis, SD are OK!  Nasty hail.  Hope not too many injuries for the Rally.  Steven Tyler fell off of a stage and broke shoulder????

Stay cool, stay dry and stay safe!!  Have a great weekend everyone.

Thoughts for today

I am contemplating long arm machine or new Bernina sewing machine.  Which will be better for the home quilter?  I see benefits of the new Bernina over my current machine, but wonder if a long arm would be better.  I know the one drawback of the long arm is the extra space because of the frame.  The bigger question is where am I going to get the money to finance either one.....

When can I sew again?  This is a rhetorical question since right now I am watching my girls  and a friend play in the pool.

Does anyone know where to find quilt blocks about manatees?  I have one .  There is another I would like but can't get my hands on it (shop in Florida is out when I visit Florida).  I may have to break down and order it on line.  I would like to eventually make an entire quilt with manatee blocks.

I  need to make a dish to pass for dinner tonight...no idea what I am going to make...not sure what is even in my cupboards.  I am leaning toward pasta salad.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather.

Lesson two - posting a picture

The first picture is the front  and the second (sorry it is blurry)  is the back.  The front is from a pattern called Fabulous Five Yard Quilts by Pineapple Press.  I have titled this quilt "Graphic Sunshine"

First Posting

Please bear with me as I learn how to do this stuff.

I am so proud of myself.  On Friday, I made an entire quilt top (cut it out and sewed it) in one afternoon.  I love how it looks.     On Saturday I purchased more of the same fabrics to do the back.  Basically I sewed the back in thirds.   I can't wait to get it quilted.

I will try to post a picture soon.  That will be lesson two.
