Quilt of Valor National Sew Day

Tomorrow is Quilt of Valor National Sew Day. For those of you who don't know about Quilts of Valor, here's a brief synopsis:

The Quilts of Valor Foundation is a completely volunteer organization. Their mission statement reads, "The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor" This is a beautiful organization that has given countless quilts to service members and veterans. It is supported by such quilting companies as Fons & Porter, specifically by Marianne Fons.

Think of how you feel when you are wrapped up in quilt. You feel safe, warm, protected and loved. Transfer that healing power to someone who has served in a war or had a traumatic experience overseas. I think we can all agree that quilts and quilters have the power to make someone, even a complete stranger, feel safe and comforted with a pieced quilt.

The Quilt of Valor Foundation takes donations of quilts, fabric and funding. Of course, the most fun and best way to support this cause is to donate a beautiful quilt. As with many quilt foundations, there are a few requirements you must follow. These can be found on their website.

Want to participate in Quilt of Valor National Sew Day tomorrow? It's as simple as calling up your quilting gal pals or calling an emergency quilt guild meeting. Bring out all your red, white, blue and gold fabric from your fabric stash. And quilt!

If you're looking for Quilt of Valor quilt patterns, here are some of my favorites. These quilt patterns are all digital downloads. This means once you purchase them, they download instantly to your computer. No waiting around for them to be shipped, and you can have them in time for tomorrow!

Patriotic Patchwork:

Bust your fabric stash and quilt for a cause with this scrappy patriotic quilt.

Thank You Star Quilt:

This patriotic quilt has muted red, blue and brown hues. Just because it's not bright doesn't mean it isn't a beautiful quilt!

My Country:

This Quilt of Valor was inspired by a two-color split Ohio Star quilt block. Rich hues and a broad border bring special elements to this quilt.

A star block and easy strip piecing make this red, white and blue quilt something to marvel at. Any soldier would want this wrapped around them!

Happy Quilting!

QCA Rachel

We have a group of 12 sewing at one or our local Quilt Shops.  We even have a couple ladies new to sewing coming by to help us out.  Will be interesting to see if they catch the quilt bug.

Encourage you to think about breaking into your stash to help make a quilt top for this cause.

I was fortunate enough a few years ago to be invited to join a group of ladies from a church down the road in quilting.  We have been working on a couple of quilts for QOV program.  I LOVE everything red, white and blue and there are so many beautiful quilt patterns for them.  Since I am a "beginner" I look for those rated "easy" or "beginner"!!
