The Present & The Future on QCA

Guess what quilters?? Sunday kicks off our first ever Q&A with a QCA Quilt Star! Starting bright and early Sunday morning, I will open up the Quilt Star forum for paid members to begin posting questions. Then the real fun begins. Pat Sloan will be logging on and giving you answers to your most pressing quilt questions. Pat will be with us from August 10th until August 17th. Mark it on your calendar: It's Pat Sloan Week!

If you are not a Paid Member, but would like to participate, make sure to sign up now or during the week!

I'm all about being a lifetime learner. Quilting is something that you can always be learning more, picking up new ideas, and expanding your skill set. If you want to go back to school (quilting school) here are some opportunities that may interest you:

1. Make Quilt Blocks in the Size You Want with Debra Finan webinar

Take all the difficult math and graph paper out of re-sizing quilt blocks. Deb is hosting an hour long webinar on August 14th to teach you how to re-size any quilt block. After this webinar, you won't have to say no to a pattern because it comes in a larger or smaller size than you would like. You will know how to quickly and correctly re-size the blocks!

2. Mastering Color for Traditional Quilts with Nancy Mahoney webinar

Color seems like such a simple concept, but choosing colors for your quilt can be the worst step of the process. Nancy Mahoney (remember, the quilt queen) is hosting a live webinar on September 16th about choosing colors for your quilt, using the color wheel, mastering color value, intensity, and contrast. She will take the guesswork out of color.

3. The Sulky Online Certified Teacher Training Program

This three month long course is a hot item for quilters and sewers alike. Learn from National Sulky certified instructors how to transition from a quilter or sewer to a teacher. Your passion can also be your job! QCA Premium Members: get a $100 discount on the registration price until August 15th. Find the discount, read about the course, and register soon!

We are partnering with Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting to bring you the first grab at their new Disney's Frozen products. QCA members can see the pre-order the quilt kit and no-sew blankets before the magazine goes on sale in two weeks. The Sisterly Love quilt kit features Anna and Elsa. The no-sew blankets provide a choice between Olaf (he's my favorite) and the two sisters. You will want to swoop these up before Frozen thaws in the summer heat.

Lastly, what's coming up for QCA? I know you all have not forgotten about the Mystery Quilt in September. Stay tuned for an exciting addition to the Mystery Quilt this go around...I smell a contest with a big prize...

To end, quilters, I would like to thank you for sticking with me as I rounded the learning curve of being the QCA Admin. It truly has been a joy and pleasure to get to know each of you these past three months. I hope you find my plans for QCA as exciting as I find them. Keep the suggestions, complaints, compliments coming! Anything is helpful to make the site better!

All my best,

QCA Rachel

I am not sure how to get started in some of these opportunities.

That Disney's Frozen quilt is beautiful.

Is there a cost for "Make Quilt Blocks in the Size You Want with Debra Finan webinar" and "Mastering Color for Traditional Quilts with Nancy Mahoney webinar"?

Hi Jennifer-the cost for each of these webinars is $19.99. With this price, you get access to the webinars for a year (to review materials and information.) Please let me know if you have anymore questions! More information can be found on the webinars by clicking on the hyperlinked text for each class.

Best,

QCA Rachel

Rachel the QCA newsletter states that the mystery quilt coming in September is the first designed by a QCA member. This is not accurate. MQs 3, 8 and 9 were all designed by "Nana" who is a long time member.
