Calling All Beginning Quilters & Quilt Teachers

If I haven't raved enough about Mary Fons already; I am here to write about her more! I assure you---it is 100% about quilting.

It's The Fons!

We have a lot of experienced quilters on QCA. I can say this with certainty because I have seen the amazing work you post on the Show & Tell Gallery. But we also have a lot of beginning quilters, and that is OK! Mary comes from a quilting dynasty, but she was once a beginning quilter. Everyone has to start somewhere, even if your mother is Marianne Fons. Mary now teaches beginning quilters the basics of quilting. Quilty covers it all-from threading a sewing machine to putting on binding.

Mary Fons has created, and is hosting, an online course for beginners, or quilters who teach beginners. A Course in Quilty: Let's Make Patchwork covers the fundamentals of quilting.

By the fundamentals I mean:

  • What quilting supplies are necessary to get started
  • Triangle units
  • Pinning and Pressing
  • Rotary Cutting
  • Making a log cabin block
  • Paper piecing
  • Quarter inch seams
  • Quilt layouts
  • Chain piecing
  • Straight of grain versus bias
  • Fabric selection

As a bonus, you will receive six digital quilt patterns at the completion of the course. I have seen them, and they are just wonderful! And another bonus? Mary Fons is your teacher. You can ask her as many questions as you like. Remember, she is the daughter of Marianne. Chances are you will hear some advice that came straight from Marianne Fons.

The course begins September 29th and runs through October 20th. September seems quite far away, but there are a limited number of seats (digital seats that is), and they are filling up fast! If you want to get in on the fun, make sure to register soon!

To register:

Simply follow this link to Craft Online University. This will bring you straight to the page to register and to find out even more information about the course.

Remember, this isn't a course just for beginners. If you teach quilters, it is designed for you, too!

Happy Quilting & Happy Days,

QCA Rachel
